The Music Department of The College of Wooster seeks applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in choral music to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will direct the award-winning, nationally recognized Wooster Chorus, teach choral conducting and courses in music education, supervise student teachers, and maintain an active record of scholarly/artistic activity. The person in this position will also lead the Wooster Chorus on an annual domestic tour as a means of public engagement and a recruiting tool for the College. Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on the background and interests of the candidate and/or needs of the Department of Music.
The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. We enroll a student population of approximately 1,800 undergraduate students drawn from 47 different states and 76 countries. 27% of our students are domestic students of color and 14% are studying on international visas. We are interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of the community through student-centered pedagogies, a breadth of curricular offerings, and a commitment to student success.
The Department of Music has 9 full-time faculty members and graduates approximately 15 majors annually, many of whom go on to pursue graduate study in performance, composition, musicology, and other areas; or enter professional careers in music education or music therapy. There is a high level of non-major participation in our department as well, with hundreds of students each year active in lessons, ensembles, and classroom courses.
Qualifications
Completed Doctorate in Music or Music Education; ABD considered. Prior college-level teaching experience, demonstrated experience teaching in a secondary or 4-12 school setting, and licensure/teaching certification are preferred. Candidates with diverse experiences in global choral music are welcomed and all candidates are encouraged to provide evidence of effective teaching, ensemble performance, recruitment and leadership, as well as a commitment to programming works that bring a breadth of musical offerings to the College.
