Job description

Wisconsin Conservatory of Music is pleased to be adding a brand-new positionย to itsย Advancementย team.ย Theย Assistantย Director of Communicationsย implements strategy for allย WCM publicity,ย video content,ย photography,ย and written communications. Working collaboratively with WCM vendors, including aย digital marketing agency, the ADOCย supportsย enrollment andย fundraisingย goalsย andย buildsย awareness aboutย WCMย to current and potential students, donors,ย alumniย and volunteers.ย 

  • Hold to the Conservatoryโ€™s mission of "Inspiring individuals and communities through exceptional music-making, accessible to all.โ€ย 

  • Embraceย theย Conservatoryโ€™s values of Excellence, Inclusion, Empathy, and Integrity.ย 

  • Playย a central roleย in advancingย WCMโ€™sย missionย by developing communicationsย inspiring,ย equippingย and activatingย internal and external stakeholdersย ย 

  • Ensureย consistent philanthropic and programmatic messaging, branding,ย and themes throughoutย allย channels.ย 

  • Develop and implement integrated communications plans for transformational gift announcements within philanthropy channels.ย 

  • Attend select WCM recitals, concerts,ย external events, recruitment,ย and partner site classes to capture content for distribution. This will includeย 3-5ย night/weekend events per month on average.ย ย 

  • Manage vendor and consultant relationships on behalf of WCM, especially photographers, videographers, and editors.ย Ensure WCM content is captured, edited, and distributed inย a timelyย fashion.ย 

  • Create and implement a comprehensive PR strategy for WCMโ€™s programs and initiatives.ย 

  • Manageย pressย list.ย 

  • Work with digital marketing consultantsย as needed.ย 

  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to multiple senior executives, creating compelling internal content across channels, leadershipย events,ย and engagement campaigns, as well as ghost-writing emails,ย talking points,ย and scripts.ย ย 

  • Work withย Assistantย Director of Development to create, review, and distribute, high-impact donor-facing communications.ย 

  • Work with grant writer as needed to create reports and/or supplemental materialsย for proposalsย 

  • Collaborate with Education colleagues to ensure enrollment periods are well publicized and supported.ย ย 

  • Work with colleagues in all departmentsย toย ensure building signageย and artworkย is dynamic and up to date.ย 

  • Occasionally provideย basic graphic designย assistance. Help manage contracted graphic designerย workflows.ย 

  • Other duties as assigned.ย ย 

  • Strong storyteller, writer, and editorย 

  • Experienced inย utilizingย data-informed strategiesย 

  • Collaborative, strategic, creative and solutions mindedย 

  • Knowledge of photography and videography, including editingย ย 

  • Knowledge of basic graphicย designย principles. Canva experience a plus.ย ย ย 

  • Working knowledge of fundraising communications principles, donor engagement, and stewardship best practices.ย 

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical,ย project management,ย andย communicationsย skills.ย 

This position requires in-person work. Occasional hybrid days available.
