About The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter specializing in music royalties. This role involves assessing the value and risk of music royalty streams by analyzing complex royalty statements, contracts, and financial data. The ideal candidate will have experience working with large datasets, parsing complex Excel sheets, and utilizing financial models to project future earnings. This person must be a proactive problem solver with exceptional organizational skills with a passion for the music and technology sectors. The role requires the ability to handle confidential information with discretion, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced and innovative environment. The location for this position is available in either our St. George, Utah Headquarters, our Los Angeles Office or our New York City Office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze detailed royalty statements from PROs, distributors, publishers, and record labels.
  • Parse and manipulate large Excel datasets to extract key financial insights.
  • Coordinate with legal to correctly interpret royalty statements ensuring alignment with artist/label/distribution agreements and statements.
  • Assess the risk and valuation of music royalty assets by evaluating historical earnings, market trends, and contractual terms.
  • Conduct due diligence on catalog acquisitions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and business development teams to structure deals.
  • Identify inconsistencies or irregularities in reported royalty data and recommend solutions.
  • Present underwriting findings and valuation reports to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Partner with sales team members to thoroughly assess the underlying context of each deal, ensuring alignment on key details, the accuracy of incoming information and the terms of the final structured offer.
  • Coordinate with product and technology teams to build and improve internal tools.
  • Work closely with account management teams during onboarding and renewals

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Music Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in underwriting, financial analysis, royalty accounting, or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, data modeling) and experience handling large datasets.
  • Familiarity with music publishing, performance rights, and digital distribution revenue streams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial data.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, or financial modeling software is a plus.
  • Passion for music and knowledge of the evolving landscape of music rights and royalties.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment or materials may be required but not exceeding 20 pounds.
