Security And Operations Officer

The Michael C. Carlos Museum is currently seeking a qualified candidate to work as a Security and Operations Officer in the museum. The candidate must help to provide a safe environment for museum employees and visitors and to safeguard the fine art and equipment by protecting the museum from various types of threats such as theft, vandalism, fire or any other type of danger.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all museum security and safety guidelines and procedures are adhered to and followed appropriately.
  • Patrols gallery spaces making observations to detect and deter unauthorized persons or activities and unsafe conditions.
  • Watch over the visitors, staff and museum assets and equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining order and secure conditions within the museum.
  • Monitors the surveillance systems such as the CCTV system.
  • Must have good verbal communication and public relations skills.
  • Operate and be proficient in using a two-way radio system.
  • Coaches and mentor's student Gallery Attendant staff, providing guidance and redirection to support high-quality customer service standards.
  • Follows organizational guidelines in reporting security-related information.
  • Monitor and operate the facility security access control card system.
  • Must be able to professionally and calmly handle emergencies.
  • Monitors facility fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to become TSA Certified within one year.
  • Report any hazardous conditions or irregularities to the appropriate museum personnel.
  • Manages the museum lost and found services.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace. Ability to work effectively with a diverse staff, faculty and student population.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point or other Productive software.
  • Provides restraint under lawful direction and may administer first aid or CPR in emergency situations.
  • Investigates and makes written reports on incidents, accidents, property damage and similar matters.
  • Serves as information conduit for University Police or Emergency Medical Services following facility alarms, medical emergencies, and/or museum policy compliance issues.
  • Reports maintenance, custodial, elevator and HVAC issues to ensure swift resolution following identification, including placing service calls for issues.
  • Receives, login and distribute incoming mail packages and deliveries via UPS and FedEx carriers to museum employees.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Escort and monitor outside contractors/vendors while providing contracted services high security areas of the facility.
  • Directing and informing visitors to appropriate resources and the ability to provide exemplary customer service to patrons.
  • Handles the museums admissions desk functions such as ticketing and membership sales.
  • Ability to operate museum POS and credit card machine systems.
  • Ability to build and sustain effective interpersonal relationships with Emory University staff, faculty, students and campus visitors.
  • Provides crowd control and security for special museum events and openings.
  • Ensures that visitors do not touch or photograph the artwork.
  • Required to work some evening hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of military or security experience.
  • Able to exercise physical restraint.
  • May require a valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record.
