Job description

General Definition of Work The purpose of this position is to provide administrative leadership to carry out the mission of the City and the Schiele Museum by managing operations, maintaining standards, financial stability, long range planning, and serve as the representative of the museum. This job works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports. To learn more about this exciting opportunity, view the Director of Schiele Museum job brochure here: Director of Schiele Museum Hiring Range: $139,000 - $150,000 Essential Functions/Duties The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.

Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

Provides administrative leadership to carry out the mission of the City and the Schiele Museum. Secures funding through grants, directs all fundraising, and ensures financial stability. Directs daily operations to maintain industry standards and best practices.

Serves as the representative of the museum in the community and to the Schiele Museum, Inc. Leads the long rang planning process. Prepare departmental budget and monitor expenditure.

Performs related work as assigned. Education/Experience/Physical Demands/Special Requirements/Additional Information MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree in Natural Science, Humanities or related discipline. Ten years of museum management or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700, IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, and IS-400 courses within 12 months of hire date. Physical Demands: This is a physically demanding position.

The following summarizes the physical activities, vision, and working coniditon that are typical of this work. Physical Activity: Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. Vision: Work requires visual acuity, depth perception, and an adequate field of vision to safely operate trucks, forklifts, cranes, and other vehicles or equipment Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Workers are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions such as in a typical office or administrative work environment Americans With Disabilities Act Compliance: The City of Gastonia is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
