Job description

RN – Pre/Post Op

Iowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking a motivated RN – Pre/Post Op to join our team at our new, state of the art Ambulatory Surgery Center in Grimes, IA. In this role, you will care for patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric, and be an integral team member providing preoperative and postoperative support for all bone, muscle, joint and spine cases. This role offers a dynamic and team-oriented environment focused on mutual support and improvement of patient outcomes.

Hours: Monday - Friday, day hours. No night, weekend or holiday hours. No call.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and evaluate patients preoperatively in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow throughout their experience.
  • Collect, assess, and analyze patient data using nursing diagnoses to develop plan of care.
  • Responsible for obtaining appropriate lab specimens, performing and interpreting EKGs, and IV access according to perioperative requirements.
  • Review chart (including but not limited to H&P, labs, testing) immediately preoperatively to ensure completeness, including surgical and anesthesia consents.
  • Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.
  • Provides airway management as applicable.
  • Ongoing physiological assessment, including medication and pain management.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, physicians, patients, families and other ancillary team members.
  • Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment and stays abreast of current perioperative nursing trends.
  • Other duties as assigned by respective Nurse Manager and Team Lead.
  • Participate in the performance improvement process and maintenance of unit resource materials.
  • Assists with regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
  • Adheres to all Joint Commission Ambulatory Standards and CMS Rules and Regulations.

Requirements:

  • R.N. with license to practice in State of Iowa.
  • Mandatory reporting course within previous 3 years
  • IV skills
  • Knowledge of perioperative services and patient education
  • Confident to act with autonomy within the scope of your practice
  • Maintains BLS certification.
  • Maintains ACLS certification, or obtains within 6 months of hire.
  • PALS certification encouraged but not required.
