The MUSC Specialty Pharmacy operates across two operational sites: the Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) Outpatient Pharmacy and the MUSC Mail Order Pharmacy. Both locations are fully integrated within the health system and are dually accredited by URAC and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), reflecting a commitment to the highest standards of specialty pharmacy practice, quality, and patient care. Both sites offer a wide array of opportunities, providing exposure to unique and complex areas within the pharmacy technician profession. These environments foster professional growth and development, allowing technicians to expand their skill sets, enhance their expertise, and advance within the specialty pharmacy field. Pharmacy technicians play a critical role in daily operations, supporting key functions such as data entry, prescription claims processing, medication fulfillment, mailing, and point-of-sale activities. In addition, technicians are actively engaged in inventory management processes, including medication ordering, receiving, and ongoing inventory maintenance to ensure accurate stock levels and continuity of patient care.

Technicians also manage shipping exceptions, ensuring patients are proactively notified of any delays. Through timely communication and coordination, they help minimize potential clinical impacts and support a seamless patient experience.

MUSC Mail Order Pharmacy Operations

The MUSC Mail Order Pharmacy operates as a closed-door facility located in North Charleston. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing for extended processing and distribution capabilities to support patient needs.

This location is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a highly integrated fulfillment center featuring advanced dispensing automation and conveyor belt systems. These technologies are designed to optimize workflow, enhance accuracy, and maximize operational efficiency in medication preparation and distribution.

Additional Job Description

Education: High School Degree or Equivalent

Work Experience: 0-6months

Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP)is required and must be maintained. Must obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician Certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)) certification:

  • Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 1 year of 11/1/2023.
  • New Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 6 months of hire.
  • New team members who are enrolled or will enroll in a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and/or recognized by PTCB, have 30 days post program completion to obtain certification.
