Engage Studio Program Assistant Graduate
Position Summary
Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Engage Studio, this position facilitates in student learning by helping students build communication skills in writing, speaking, presenting, and designing multimodal presentations. Additional duties include administrative and assessment processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Communication Support:
• Assist students with academic writing, including essays, research papers, and other assignments.
• Provide guidance on structuring, organizing, and revising written work.
• Aid students in translating written assignments into compelling presentations.
Public Speaking Confidence:
• Conduct one-on-one or group sessions to boost students' confidence in public speaking.
• Offer feedback and constructive criticism on students' delivery, body language, and speech content.
• Organize workshops and activities to enhance public speaking skills.
Multimedia Presentation Assistance:
• Help students transform their papers into visually appealing presentations.
• Teach students how to create engaging slides, incorporate multimedia elements, and design effective presentations.
• Provide training on voiceovers for presentations and assist in the technical aspects of recording and editing.
Introduction to Presentation Tools and Technology:
• Familiarize students with various presentation tools and technologies, such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, and others.
• Provide hands-on training on using multimedia elements, animations, and interactive features in presentations.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and tools in presentation technology.
Other Essential Duties:Meets with directors as needed to plan, implement, and assess engagement strategies. Documents sessions for the studio and inputs data in Microsoft Excel and other interfaces for assessment purposes. Writes reports for the studio. Develops marketing materials and awareness campaigns to promote the studio on campus. Presents to faculty and staff to promote the studio as a resource for students. Assists in organizing and scheduling workshops, seminars, and events for the studio Collaborates with other staff members to develop resources and materials for student use. Completes and submits session plans, voiceover presentations, and documents to be used with students in the Engage Studio. Attends training sessions with directors and professional development activities related to composition and communication. Facilitates tutorials and walk-in support sessions. Maintains punctual attendance and scheduled hours in person at the Engage Studio. Confers with directors weekly. Attends and participates in all training and Engage Studio staff meetings as required. Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. Develops outreach materials and correspondence with faculty and staff prior to the beginning of each term. Delivers presentations promoting the Engage Studio in classes to raise awareness of resources available. Web content development and data entry for the Engage Studio website and assessment files. Proficiency in using various presentation tools and software. Collects attendance data for every Engage session, including student names, course title, date, and time of session.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • Completed Bachelor's degree in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or Communication Studies.
  • Current acceptance or enrollment in a graduate program related to Rhetoric & Composition, Teaching Writing, English Studies, or Communication. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 in degrees earned.
  • Applicant may be currently in graduate school or may have completed a graduate degree in the related field.

Experience
At least one year of experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or serving as a teaching assistant in a secondary or higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work independently when necessary and collaboratively with colleagues and directors to develop a welcoming studio and effective teaching materials.
  • Office skills (greeting students, managing files, collecting data, documentation of work)
  • Confidence in public speaking and presentation delivery.
  • Passion for helping others improve their communication skills.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, student mentoring, or assisting peers.
  • Skill posting materials in Microsoft Teams and in the Canvas Course Management System.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Ability to take questions from students and engage in mentoring and problem-solving.

  • Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, standard correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to uphold workplace ethics and principles of academic integrity for student benefit.
  • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
