Job description

MC: Language Services- ( Full Time, Varied Shift) - 

**"This position is on-site.****

Job Summary: The Interpreter/Translator provides competent and culturally sensitive Spanish in-person, telephone, and video-remote interpretation for patients and their families/caregivers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).  Serves all sites licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) license.  Maintains working knowledge of all applicable state and federal regulations and organizational policies related to LEP.  Documents interpretation in medical record according to established guidelines.  Adheres to the Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice developed by the California Healthcare Interpreters Association.  Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service and safe patient care.  These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals.  Performs other duties as needed. 
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required.  Associate's Degree preferred. Minimum two years of experience as an interpreter in a healthcare setting using in-person, telephone, and video-remote interpretation required. 
Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, as well as basic knowledge of cultural folk medicine required.  Strong customer service background required.  Bi-lingual and bi-cultural in English and Spanish required. Able to keyboard 40 wpm. Able to read, write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Proof of training in an accredited interpreter program required. National Translation Accreditation Language Competency or California State Interpreter Certification preferred.
