Job description

Industrial Color | CA | Hybrid (3 Days Onsite, 2 Days Remote)

Industrial Color is seeking a Multidisciplinary Designer to support a leading prestige beauty client. This highly visible role is ideal for a designer who thrives at the intersection of packaging innovation, brand storytelling, and consumer experience.

We are looking for a creative thinker with deep experience in beauty, skincare, personal care, or consumer packaged goods who understands how thoughtful design can build trust, communicate product efficacy, and create meaningful connections with consumers. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in primary packaging and structural design, paired with exceptional visual design skills across print, digital, and brand communications.

This role is particularly well-suited for a designer who understands how to create packaging and visual systems that resonate with a broad consumer audience seeking both performance and sophistication. You should be able to balance clinical credibility with modern beauty aesthetics, developing designs that feel premium, approachable, trusted, and results-driven.

Requirements

What You'll DoPrimary Packaging, Component & Structural Design (Core Focus)
  • Lead the concept, sketching, and development of primary packaging and component forms from scratch, including bottles, tubes, jars, pumps, caps, closures, compacts, applicators, and custom engineered forms.
  • Design the full physical system of the package, not just its surface decoration—considering ergonomics, usability, functionality, and consumer interaction.
  • Create and refine 3D CAD models in Rhino, translating sketches and concepts into manufacturable product forms.
  • Develop high-quality KeyShot renderings for internal reviews, presentations, and concept validation.
  • Explore materials, finishes, coatings, textures, and decoration techniques with a strong understanding of manufacturing constraints.
  • Partner closely with Packaging Engineering, Product Development, and external vendors to ensure feasibility, tooling readiness, and production execution.
  • Review prototypes, evaluate ergonomics and consumer usability, and iterate designs through multiple development stages through final production.
Brand & Visual Design
  • Design across packaging graphics, print, retail, digital, social, and brand communication systems.
  • Develop cohesive visual languages that support product storytelling and reinforce brand positioning.
  • Translate product benefits and innovation into clear, elevated, consumer-friendly design systems.
  • Ensure consistency across all consumer touchpoints while continuously elevating the brand aesthetic.
  • Create original design systems rooted in brand DNA—not templated or derivative solutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Marketing, Product Development, Creative, Packaging Engineering, and global vendor partners.
  • Present design concepts, mood boards, 3D explorations, and strategic rationale with clarity and confidence.
  • Contribute to a highly collaborative, detail-driven, and innovation-focused creative environment.
  • Balance creative ambition with production realities, cost considerations, and launch timelines.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in beauty, skincare, personal care, wellness, or consumer packaged goods design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating primary packaging, structural packaging, and component design from concept through production.
  • Proven experience designing physical packaging systems and components, not solely graphic or surface-level packaging design.
  • Advanced proficiency in:
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Figma
    • Rhino 3D
    • KeyShot
  • Strong understanding of injection molding, materials, manufacturing processes, and decoration techniques.
  • Experience developing 3D packaging concepts, CAD models, renderings, and production-ready files.
  • Ability to move fluidly between structural design, component engineering, packaging graphics, and brand systems.
  • Strong eye for proportion, tactility, materiality, and real-world consumer interaction.
  • Deep understanding of how packaging design influences perception of efficacy, quality, and trust in beauty products.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume product development environments.
Who You Are

You are a designer who thinks in both form and function. You understand that in beauty, packaging is not just visual—it is physical, tactile, and deeply tied to consumer trust and product performance.

You are equally comfortable sketching a new component form, building it in 3D, refining engineering details, and crafting the visual language that brings it to life on shelf. You care about how a product feels in the hand, how it dispenses, how it wears, and how it communicates efficacy at first glance.

You bring a refined design sensibility, strong technical expertise, and a deep appreciation for crafting beauty products that are both highly functional and visually compelling. You thrive in environments where design excellence, technical rigor, and real-world execution must work seamlessly together.

Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this role is $95,000 - $105,000 annually. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

This is a hybrid role requiring flexibility to work in-office and remotely. Evening or weekend work may occasionally be required during major projects.

We offer a competitive benefits package including major medical, dental and vision insurance, FSA, HSA, and employee discounts.
