What is a multi unit operations manager?

Multi Unit Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the operations of multiple business locations or units within an organization, such as retail stores, restaurants, or branches. They ensure consistency in service, implement company policies, manage budgets, and support location managers in achieving performance goals. Their duties often include staff training, process optimization, and ensuring compliance with company standards across all units. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to maintain high performance across several sites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a multi unit operations manager?

To thrive as a Multi Unit Operations Manager, you need strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills, often supported by a degree in business management or a related field and experience overseeing multiple locations. Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and financial reporting tools is typically required, and certifications like Six Sigma or Lean Management can be beneficial. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and team-building abilities help you motivate staff and manage competing priorities across sites. These skills ensure operational consistency, drive performance, and foster a positive culture across multiple business units.

How does a multi unit operations manager effectively balance the needs of multiple locations while maintaining consistent performance standards?

A Multi Unit Operations Manager typically juggles oversight of several locations, which requires strong organizational skills and frequent communication with on-site managers. Managers often visit locations, conduct audits, and provide coaching to address unique challenges while fostering a cohesive team culture. By leveraging technology and delegating appropriately, they can address site-specific issues without compromising overall operational goals.

Our Regional Operations Managers play a key role in building capable teams, creating consistent customer experience, and supporting profitable growth across the business.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Operations Manager is responsible for leading a group of 14 CIL Dulux store locations across the Southeast Region. This role ensures stores deliver excellent customer service, achieve sales and profit objectives, operate within expense guidelines, and maintain strong standards in staffing, merchandising, compliance, and loss prevention. The role requires a hands-on, field-based leader who can coach store teams, build accountability, and drive consistent execution across multiple locations.

This person will work remotely but reside in the Winnipeg, MB area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive sales performance, profitability, and expense control in alignment with approved plans, budgets, and business priorities.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and motivate store leaders and team members to build strong performance, engagement, and succession capability.
  • Identify training needs and provide practical coaching, feedback, and development support to strengthen store-level capability.

  • Ensure interior and exterior store appearance, displays, signage, and merchandising are maintained to required standards.
  • Analyze store performance indicators and partner with store leaders to create action plans that address gaps and improve results.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with operations, HR, sales, supply chain, and support teams to resolve issues and support business objectives.

  • Communicate priorities clearly, follow up consistently, and remove barriers that prevent store teams from delivering results.
  • Use sound judgment, data, and business insight to influence decisions and support sustainable performance improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years of regional, multi-unit, or equivalent management experience; retail operations experience is strongly preferred.
