Expect to spend long hours on rugged terrain regardless of weather, handling both the animals and heavy loads. Typically, you'll work as part of a small, tight-knit team, coordinating tasks like loading, route planning, and setting up camp. The job requires adaptability to changing conditions, a strong sense of responsibility for the animals, and collaboration with guides, field staff, or guests depending on the employer. Many find this career rewarding for the close connection to nature and the hands-on, adventurous work.
