Job description

BTS is seeking an MTT UAS Advisor/Trainer to serve as a Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Trainer / Remotely Piloted Vehicle (RPV) Pilot responsible for planning, developing, and delivering instructional training related to UAS and C-UAS operations. This position supports the Engineering and System Integration Directorate (ESID) by designing and updating training programs, instructional materials, and operational content to meet evolving mission and system requirements.

Location: Aberdeen, MD

Clearance: Secret (TS/ SCI eligible)/ TS/ SCI is preferred

What you will do:

  • Responsible for COTS UAS multi-rotor platforms and supporting systems to gather intelligence for mission planning, mission sensor/payload operations, launching, remotely piloting, and recovering remote-piloted ground and air vehicle systems.
  • Be available and willing to deploy to various AORs for up to 6-months at a time, rotating with other deployers and train in the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD area.
  • Have extensive experience in either Special Operations / Special Forces or a senior Combat Arms background.
  • Have the ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS (to possible conflict areas) on short notice to disseminate relevant threat information.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of all instructor materials (course manuals, workbooks, handouts, completion certificates, and course evaluation forms).
  • Support training of US and Coalition Forces (CF).
  • Define vulnerabilities and critical infrastructure regarding threats by UAS/RPV such as TTPs to include emplacement TTPs and photo TTP.
  • Responsible for the acquisition, fabrication, modification, programming, and maintenance of RPV for test events.
  • Launches and recovers the air vehicle, performs pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience instructing large groups of low- and high-ranking personnel in a military environment.
  • BA/BS with 0-3 years of experience; or AA/AS and 4 years of experience; or HS/GED and 6 years of experience.
  • Experience with COTS multi-rotor and fixed-wing aircraft, to include hobbyist UAS experience.
  • Special Operations/Special Forces background OR a senior combat arms type background.
  • Must be able to complete CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) and deploy to CENTCOM theater.

Desired:
• Knowledge of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP).
• Must be able to obtain an FAA Part 107 (sUAS Remote Pilot Certificate)
• Experience with all RPV (land, air, and sea) and ability to design/fabricate with limited

instructions or pre-built kits.

  • Ability to take technical RPV knowledge and inform/instruct others about the technology,

capabilities, and limitations, and impacts to DoD capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute UAS (drone) flight operations in support of research, training, and operational objectives.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret aerial ISR data to support mission requirements and decision-making.
  • Develop and refine Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) related to UAS employment and counter-UAS environments.
  • Produce high-quality deliverables, including reports, AARs, briefings, and storyboards
  • Conduct pattern-of-life analysis, terrain analysis, and target development using aerial and ground-based data.
  • Support Red Team / Red Air operations, simulating threat UAS activity for training audiences
  • Integrate UAS capabilities into live-fire exercises, training events, and operational scenarios
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and airspace requirements (FAA, DoD, local guidance)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot UAS platforms, sensors, and associated equipment
  • Mentor junior analysts and operators on UAS employment and analytical methodologies

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Intelligence, Engineering, Data Analysis, or related discipline).
  • 8+ years of experience in military operations, intelligence analysis, or UAS operations.
  • Proven experience operating small UAS platforms (e.g., DJI, military SUAS) in complex environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience producing actionable intelligence or operational insights.
  • Experience supporting training exercises, Red Teaming, or operational test events.
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic, high-tempo environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military experience (E6+ combat arms, SOF, or ISR background preferred).
  • Experience with counter-UAS (C-UAS) operations or threat replication.
  • Familiarity with targeting methodologies (e.g., CARVER, ISR integration).
  • FAA Part 107 certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience operating in OCONUS or austere environments.
  • Background in live-fire support, range operations, or NTC/JRTC rotations.
