POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Advocacy Specialist serves as a strategic leader overseeing the design and implementation of a district-wide system of behavioral health, student support, and school safety. This role ensures the effective integration of supports within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), using data to drive decision-making, improve outcomes, and ensure equitable access to services. The Specialist builds and manages partnerships across schools, community agencies, and state systems to create a seamless continuum of care, while advising district leadership on policy, compliance, and best practices. Additionally, the role leads the development and evaluation of Tier 1-3 supports and staff training, ensuring consistent, high-quality implementation across the district. This position operates at a systems level to strengthen coordination, remove barriers, and improve student well-being, engagement, and success. This position will report to the Director of Student Behavioral Health and Wellbeing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership and Systems Alignment - Leads the design, alignment, and continuous improvement of a district-wide behavioral health and MTSS framework; advises leadership on policy, compliance, and implementation.
Coordination of Behavioral Health and Student Support - Oversees identification, referral systems, case management, and access to Tier 1-3 interventions, ensuring a seamless continuum of care for students.
Data Analysis and Program Evaluation - Analyzes attendance, behavior, and academic data to guide decision-making; monitors outcomes, evaluates effectiveness, and reports impact.
Training, Capacity Building, and Compliance - Leads staff training, supports implementation of behavioral health initiatives, and ensures adherence to state requirements and school safety protocols.
Partnership Development and Stakeholder Collaboration - Builds and maintains partnerships with schools, families, community providers, and state agencies to expand access and reduce barriers to services.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, a related behavioral health field, or comparable experience in these fields of expertise with PSC certification.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in counseling, social services or pupil personnel services.
Makes moderate decisions and recommendations which affect the activities of others.
No certification required. Preferred Course work in data analysis, statistics, or a related area and/or experience in data-driven decision-making.
Moderate level of judgment required; must evaluate and provide guidance to student and approve general recommendations. Supervisor is available to review departmental recommendations.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with community resources. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams. Also, exceptional communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, community organizations, insurance care coordinators, behavioral health providers, and state agencies.
Requires regular, frequent contact with external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with community resources. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.
Requires excellent, listening, written, verbal and presentation skills. Must be self-motivated with a high level of flexibility.
Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District. Must have the ability to learn new applications as required for data entry and record-keeping.
Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.
Normal office setting. May require travel for off-site locations and school site visits.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying twenty (20) lbs. or less.
NOTE: This is a grade 26, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8
