Position Summary

Retail Cashiers help create a welcoming, fun, and guest-focused shopping experience by assisting customers with purchases, product questions, and general retail support in a fast-paced mountain environment. This position works with a wide variety of custom, unique, and seasonal merchandise while helping maintain organized displays, accurate transactions, and a positive retail atmosphere for guests and employees.

Successful employees in this role are dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable engaging with a wide variety of guests in an energetic and community-oriented environment. Employees are expected to bring a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to connect with customers while helping create an enjoyable and memorable retail experience.

General Responsibilities:

  • Perform Mt. Baker Mountain Shop retail sales accurately while providing friendly and respectful customer service
  • Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the Mt. Baker Mountain Shop and associated storage areas
  • Develop a working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area Mountain Policies and daily operating procedures as well as Mt. Baker Ski Area facilities and services offered
  • Perform Mountain Shop duties as trained

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of Mt. Baker Mountain Shop retail training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer
  • General familiarity with outdoor sports equipment and soft goods or demonstrate the ability to acquire a greater understanding of offerings available in the Mt. Baker Mountain Shop
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate a positive working environment for customers and other staff members of Mt. Baker Ski Area
  • Willingness to learn and improve upon skills associated with successful daily operating procedures

Wage & Hour Information:

  • Availability Requirements: Must have a minimum of two days available each week in addition to peak business times (school breaks and holidays).
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.
  • Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.

Working in the mountain environment is physically demanding. You need to be in good health and in good physical condition and have the ability to perform the following:

  • Bending, twisting, lifting, and moving items throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift and move 30 pounds (or more depending on the task).
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods.
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary.
