What are MSMs (Medical Science Liaisons)?

MSMs, or Medical Science Liaisons, are professionals who act as a bridge between pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device companies and the healthcare community. Their primary role is to provide scientific and clinical information to healthcare professionals, support clinical trials, and gather insights on market trends and unmet medical needs. MSMs are typically experts in a therapeutic area and do not engage in sales, but rather focus on education, research support, and building relationships with key opinion leaders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Master of Science in Management (MSM) graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a professional with an MSM degree, you need strong analytical, strategic planning, and business management skills, typically supported by a relevant bachelor's degree and the MSM qualification. Familiarity with data analysis tools, project management software (such as Microsoft Project or Asana), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is beneficial. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help you excel in team environments and drive organizational success. These skills and qualifications enable MSM graduates to effectively manage projects, lead teams, and adapt to evolving business challenges.

What are some typical challenges faced by Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) in building relationships with healthcare professionals?

MSLs often face the challenge of establishing credibility and trust with busy healthcare professionals, who may be skeptical of industry representatives. It requires strong product knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a genuine focus on scientific exchange rather than sales. Scheduling meetings can also be difficult due to the clinicians' time constraints. MSLs must balance their scientific expertise with interpersonal skills to foster meaningful, long-term relationships that benefit both the company and the medical community.

Project Manager
MSM is seeking a highly organized, proactive Project Manager to join our passionate, woman-owned experiential agency. We bring brands to life through strategic thinking, award-winning exhibit and event design, and flawless execution for trade shows, events, branded environments, and customer engagements. We deliver with genuine passion and are committed to exceeding expectations and creating exceptional customer experiences. Our service culture means we:
  • Thrive in a demanding environment
  • Build meaningful relationships
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and adapt to change
  • Set high standards and strive to exceed

Ideal Candidate Attributes
You're more than a project manager - you're process-obsessed, detail-driven, and a natural collaborator who thrives on making projects run seamlessly for both clients and internal teams. The right candidate will demonstrate the following:
  • Project Ownership & Execution: Proactively manages timelines, budgets, deliverables, and logistics from concept through completion, ensuring every detail is executed to the highest standard.
  • Risk Anticipator & Solutions-Oriented: Identifies potential challenges and evolving client needs before they arise; communicates proactively and offers clear, effective solutions.
  • Trusted Partner: Builds strong, lasting relationships with clients and partners through responsiveness, transparency, and reliability at every stage of collaboration.
  • Skilled Multitasker: Excels at balancing multiple projects and fast-changing priorities in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments while maintaining organization and composure.
  • Cross-Functional Collaborator: Bridges creative, sales, production, and vendor teams to keep projects aligned, efficient, and moving smoothly.
  • Adaptable Problem Solver: Responds quickly and effectively to evolving circumstances and last-minute shifts, ensuring client satisfaction without compromising quality.
  • Process & Documentation Champion: Drives process improvements and maintains thorough project documentation, helping the team work smarter and deliver stronger outcomes.
  • Accountable Leader: Demonstrates an innate sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through-consistently exceeding stakeholder expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned tradeshow and experiential projects, acting as the liaison between the MSM Account team and the internal Creative, Estimating, Engineering, Procurement, Production and Warehouse Teams.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and critical milestones, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Manage the details and timeline for the production of all structural elements (booth structure, cabinets and demo stations, product displays, overhead signage, etc.) as well as all graphic elements.
  • Manage the details and timeline for all freight logistics and on-site services (including install & dismantle schedules).
  • Keep project teams informed on all details, hold planning meetings as needed to share updates, gather approvals, communicate challenges, answer questions, and solve issues.
  • Ensure all project details are current and up to date within MSM's project management software (Monday.com).
  • Drive quality and continuous process improvement by identifying and reporting quality & process issues.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Project Management, or other closely related field is a plus.
  • Project management experience in tradeshows, events, exhibits, or experiential marketing is a plus but not required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, Smartsheet) and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus but not required.
  • Budget management and analytical skills.
  • Positive, accountable, and service-minded attitude-dedicated to building productive partnerships.
  • Familiarity with exhibit fabrication, installation, and event logistics is highly valued.

Salary range for these positions is purposefully broad. The initial compensation offered may be outside of this range and will be determined by multiple factors, including the applicant's job-related skills, relevant experience, and education. This role offers significant opportunities for growth in terms of role development and compensation.
Compensation Range:$62,500 - $70,000
Location: Rochester, NY (In-Person)
If you are an energetic relationship-builder with hands-on tradeshow and event experience-and a passion for delivering extraordinary brand experiences-we encourage you to apply and help create memorable moments for our clients.
The pay range for this role is:
62,500 - 70,000 USD per year (MSM)
