Summary
We welcome an experienced and diligent Packaging Engineer to contribute to House of Cheatham through the responsibilities listed below. This professional will be responsible for the design and sourcing of required packaging materials, evaluating current packaging designs, and utilizing the "design to cost strategy" technique for both existing and new packaging designs.
Reporting to the Technical Director and collaborating cross-functionally, the Packaging Engineer will play an integral role in development and cost-savings initiatives. The Packaging Engineer will coordinate with Marketing, Procurement, and vendors for new and existing projects, and collaborate with Operations to support selection design and validation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Marketing and new Product Development to drive packaging projects for new product introductions and existing package improvements or renovations
  • Develop and source packaging componentry to include folding cartons, displays, corrugated shippers, pressure sensitive labels, flexible tubes, plastic bottles, and closures/sprays
  • Investigate and execute resolutions with the Quality team on packaging failures from company or external contract manufacturers
  • Conduct qualified package testing (drop/vibration/compatibility/use/contact/weight loss) to ensure functionality and compliance
  • Create and maintain product specifications database and participate in the approval process to ensure accuracy per sales/retailer requirements
  • Compose documentation for BOMs production assembly and component specifications
  • Provide most efficient pallet configurations on new and current SKUs
  • Stay abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies
  • Work with Regulatory to provide direction on globally compliant packaging options and reporting responsibilities
  • Liaise with Marketing, Operations, Sales and Finance to drive relevant cost savings initiatives
  • Establish a close connection with suppliers and cultivate relationships with all key commodity suppliers
  • Complete all other tasks and projects as requested

Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in packaging science, package engineering, mechanical engineering, plastics processing, or equivalent experience
  • At least four (4) years' experience in Packaging Development and Operations, preferably in fast-moving consumer goods with specific preference for personal care/cosmetic products
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials for hair and body care products, e.g. plastic bottles, jars, closures, tubes, lids & various types of seals, processes and limitations
  • Knowledge of packaging sustainability and global regulations
  • Experience with software such as MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Vicinity Software and CAD
  • Willingness to work in office four (4) days per week in Stone Mountain, GA (Monday - Thursday) and remotely one (1) day per week (Friday)
