Job Title: Chemist II

Job Description

The Chemist II plans and executes laboratory experiments using established procedures and a solid technical understanding of analytical techniques. This role independently generates precise, reliable, and reproducible data, documents work in compliance with regulatory requirements, and ensures all activities meet GxP and safety standards. The Chemist II develops protocols for more complex or less-defined assays, interprets data with a strong grasp of core chemistry principles, and communicates findings clearly to larger scientific audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute assigned laboratory tasks using standard procedures and a strong technical understanding of analytical techniques.
  • Independently generate precise, reliable, and reproducible data within established timelines.
  • Document experiments and results accurately and completely in accordance with regulatory and GxP requirements.
  • Demonstrate experimental precision and apply strong data interpretation skills to evaluate results and draw sound conclusions.
  • Develop protocols and methods for more complex tests or experiments, especially where assays and parameters are less defined.
  • Ensure all laboratory work complies with safety policies, GxP, GMP, and GLP requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality, GxP-compliant data in a timely manner to support project and business needs.
  • Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV/VIS, MS, ICP, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Apply basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and instrument-related software systems, to support laboratory activities and documentation.
  • Present experimental findings and data summaries clearly and confidently to larger groups and scientific audiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a regulated laboratory environment to support ongoing projects and continuous improvement of laboratory practices.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating analytical instruments including HPLC, GC, UV/VIS, MS, ICP, and similar systems.
  • Laboratory research experience in an academic and/or industry setting with a demonstrated track record of scientific work.
  • Familiarity with GMP and GLP principles and an understanding of working in a regulated laboratory environment.
  • Ability to present scientific findings effectively to larger groups and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong experience in chemistry fundamentals and core analytical chemistry concepts.
  • Strong experimental technique and demonstrated laboratory skills, including method execution and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent documentation skills with the ability to maintain clear, accurate, and compliant records.
  • Competence with basic computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and instrument-related software.
  • BS in Chemistry with 5 years of laboratory experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for technical and scientific audiences.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience presenting research findings to scientific organizations or professional conferences (preferred but not required).
  • Authorship or co-authorship of research publications in scientific journals (preferred but not required).
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on proficiency with HPLC, GC, UV/VIS, MS, ICP, and related analytical instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop or refine protocols for complex or less-defined assays.
  • Experience working within GxP, GMP, and GLP frameworks with a focus on quality and compliance.
  • Comfort presenting data and conclusions to panels, teams, or broader scientific audiences in virtual or in-person settings.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, on-site role based at a laboratory facility in the North Chicago area. The position follows a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work takes place in a regulated laboratory environment that utilizes analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV/VIS, MS, ICP, and associated computer and data systems. The role requires adherence to laboratory safety procedures, GxP, GMP, and GLP standards at all times. The interview process typically includes two rounds of virtual interviews conducted by a panel of two to three interviewers. The position is structured as a one-year contract, with potential continuation based on performance and business needs.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $36.00/hr.
