Job Description:
QC Laboratory Chemist
Huntsman is seeking a QC Laboratory Chemist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This position will report to the Quality Manager.
Job Scope
The QC Laboratory Chemist is responsible for performing Quality Control testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products in support of manufacturing operations. This role ensures adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), laboratory quality systems, and safety policies while supporting the site's quality objectives. The position requires a strong understanding of chemistry principles, laboratory best practices, and analytical testing techniques. Working under direct supervision, the QC Laboratory Chemist contributes to product quality, method improvement, laboratory organization, and continuous operational excellence.
In summary, as the QC Laboratory Chemist, you will:
  • Perform quality control analytical testing in accordance with established SOPs and laboratory procedures.
  • Support routine testing of incoming and production samples to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot QC laboratory instrumentation and assist with maintaining analytical equipment performance.
  • Utilize laboratory software and instrumentation systems to collect, review, and interpret analytical data.
  • Apply basic chemistry, mathematics, and statistical principles to support laboratory operations.
  • Operate and maintain analytical instruments, including Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) systems.
  • Participate in gauge R&R studies, method optimization, and method development projects.
  • Perform Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities, reporting out-of-control conditions to Quality Management.
  • Conduct laboratory data reviews and maintain accurate documentation of testing activities.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical reagents and laboratory solutions.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, stock consumables, and store incoming chemicals.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and housekeeping standards.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste according to established safety and environmental procedures.
  • Complete Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) activities and ensure compliance with laboratory safety requirements.
  • Support departmental objectives, continuous improvement initiatives, and company Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.
  • Complete shift turnover documentation and other assignments as directed by the Quality Manager.

Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate of Science degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a quality control laboratory, chemical laboratory, or related environment.

OR
  • 4+ years of experience working in a chemical laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment in lieu of the Associate degree requirement.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and statistical concepts.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing procedures and quality control practices.
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory quality systems.
  • Proficiency with computer applications and laboratory software systems.

  • Hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), or similar analytical instrumentation.
  • Experience with Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, chemical hygiene practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting method development, optimization, or validation activities.
  • Familiarity with laboratory inventory management and chemical handling procedures.

Working Environment
  • Work is performed in a laboratory environment supporting chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Requires handling chemicals, laboratory reagents, and analytical testing equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including respiratory protection when handling laboratory waste or designated tasks.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sample handling, and laboratory housekeeping activities.
  • May require lifting laboratory supplies, chemicals, and consumables within established safety guidelines.
  • Must comply with all laboratory safety requirements, Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) procedures, and Huntsman Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.
  • Position is scheduled for a 12-hour day shift (7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.).
