Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate - LC-MS-based Omics Division: Pathology Work Arrangement: Onsite only Location: Houston, TX Salary Range: $63,480 FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

The Center for Drug Discovery (https://www.bcm.edu/research/centers/drug-discovery) is a strategic research center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The lab is looking for a highly self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with extensive experience in liquid chromatography-MS metabolomics, lipidomics, and drug metabolism. The Postdoctoral Associate will apply advanced MS-based approaches to study the proteosome and metabolome to characterize our newly created dTAG-KI animal models and conduct the drug metabolism pharmacokinetics studies. The lab is well-equipped with Thermos UHPLC-Q Exactive MS, Orbitrap Exploris 120, Thermo Quintus (triple quadruple), and Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS, Bruker timsTOF fleX MALDI-2). The position provides opportunities for advanced training in mass spectrometry, metabolomics, lipidomics, drug metabolism, toxicology, and imaging mass spectrometry within a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.

Job Duties
  • Develops, optimizes, and validates LC-MS and LC-MS/MS methods for metabolomics, lipidomics, drug metabolism, and biomarker analysis.
  • Performs sample preparation and extraction of metabolites, lipids, drugs, and drug metabolites from cells, tissues, plasma, and other biological matrices.
  • Conducts untargeted and targeted metabolomics and lipidomics studies.
  • Processes, analyzes, interprets, and visualizes complex mass spectrometry datasets using appropriate computational and statistical tools.
  • Performs in vitro drug-metabolism studies that includes incubations with liver microsomes, primary human hepatocytes, and other relevant biological systems.
  • Identifies and characterizes drug metabolites using high-resolution mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry.
  • Assess cellular toxicity using biochemical, molecular, imaging, and metabolomics-based endpoints.
  • Maintains accurate experimental records and contributes to data interpretation, scientific presentations and manuscripts.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in analytical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, metabolomics, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in metabolomics and/or lipidomics, including sample preparation, instrument operation, data processing, and biological interpretation.
  • Experience with high-resolution LC-MS platforms, especially Thermo Orbitrap Exploris MS.
  • Proficiency with metabolomics and lipidomics data-analysis software and multivariate statistical methods.
  • Experience with primary human hepatocytes or other physiologically relevant cell models.
  • Experience with imaging mass spectrometry, including MALDI or DESI imaging, would be a significant advantage.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and drug-induced toxicity studies.
  • Strong publication record in mass spectrometry, metabolomics, lipidomics, drug metabolism, toxicology, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, and scientific communication skills.
