Job description

Overview

Research Scientist (1 Year Fixed Term) job at Stanford University (US). Stanford, CA. The Yang Lab in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine is currently recruiting for an experienced virologist to join our lab as a Basic Life Science Research Scientist and work with a team of medicinal chemists, virologists, and structural biologists in developing prototype drugs to combat chronic viral infection.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluation of small molecules in biochemical, cell biological, and virological assays
  • Characterization of small molecule mechanisms of action
  • Development of novel assays for evaluating and optimizing compounds with induced proximity mechanisms of action
  • Write scientific sections of grant applications and progress reports
  • Mentor and supervise junior members of the research team
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in virology, cell or molecular biology, or biochemistry
  • At least 2 years of postdoctoral training with experience in molecular virology of gammaherpesviruses or retroviruses
  • Experience with molecular biology and reverse genetics; replication and reactivation assays; cell line generation and optimization
  • Knowledge of EBV biology and EBV-associated cancers or HIV virology
  • Ability to manage own research and contribute new ideas for directions and funding opportunities
  • Ability to independently design experiments to advance projects
  • Excellent quantitative and communication skills and ability to collaborate
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to achieve desired goals
  • Experience applying quantitative methods to biological problems and experiments
  • Experience mentoring junior scientists in the laboratory highly desired
  • Computer literacy with emphasis on Windows operating systems and software applications; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, GraphPad Prism, and other quantitative analysis programs
  • Willingness to thrive in a collaborative and fast‑paced environment and to learn and evolve as a scientist
Salary and Benefits

Expected pay range: $77,124 to $84,000 per annum.
