JOB DESCRIPTION

The MPD Support Engineer provides engineering and operational support for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations from a Remote Support / Monitoring location or on-site, as needed.

The MPD Support Engineer will have an understanding of all aspects of drilling operations, drilling engineering topics and conventional well control, and will provide specialty support to various aspects of Managed Pressure Drilling Projects including but not limited to wellsite engineering task, on-demand engineering support, continuous monitoring of MPD parameters, interpretation of well behavior, early identification of anomalies or deviations, and proactive technical guidance to the customer and SDS field personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of Statis associated services.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform forecasting for Equivalent Mud Weight (EMW) / Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) in drilling operations and calculate Surface Back Pressure (SBP) requirements for drilling and connections.
  • Determine stroke/volume requirements for various operational scenarios.
  • Development/ optimization of existing MPD operational roadmaps, Technical Procedures, End of Well Reports.
  • Responsible for communication between rig operations and office.
  • Provide feedback and advice internally/externally about operational, technical, QHSE and engineering practices/ requests/ challenges for the day.
  • Operate MPD system in real time in conjunction w/ drilling operations. Interact with the rig crew and advise driller and client of events or potential problems identified during the operation.
  • Provide continuous real-time monitoring of MPD operations.
  • Support troubleshooting of MPD equipment and control system performance
  • Execution of all matters related to Managed Pressure Drilling, Rotating Control Devices and Hydraulic modeling with minimal to no supervision.
  • Responsible for operational procedures, onsite client training, daily reporting, hydraulic modeling, and End of Well Reports.
  • Perform/assist in equipment rig up and rig down, equipment maintenance, inspection, and subsequent repairs.
  • Responsible for site achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and managing resources and processes required to do so.

METRIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Adherence to approved workflows.
  • Technical Procedures validated as technically sound during post-well or post-event review.
  • KPI Reporting.
  • Comprehension of hazards in Stasis JSA's.
  • 100% Completion of Required HSE Training.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 0-1+ years minimum functional experience drilling related discipline
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external clients
  • Proactive analytical skills with attention to details and process improvements
  • Competent in the use of drilling engineering calculating programs and other related software
  • Must maintain a Valid Driver's License

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Applied knowledge of MPD principles, particularly Surface Back Pressure (SBP) applications.
  • Working knowledge of MPD surface equipment.
  • Regular punctuality and exbibit leadership through servitude behavior.
  • Ability to work with minimum guidance as well as in a team-based environment required.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required to meet Customer drilling schedules.
  • Exhibits honesty and high ethics, determination, active listening, and focused.
  • Can work in a high-pressure environment, learn quickly and adapt to new challenges and situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical ability to:
  • Repetitively climb steep stairs and be able to lift and carry 50+ pounds independently.
  • Stay alert and focused for 12+ hours while performing repetitive and routine activities including but not limited to walking, standing, or sitting.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl throughout the tour work shift.
  • Use heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools.
  • Work closely with others in the confined area of the drilling rig and live together in crew quarters.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Follow all required safety instructions as per company HSE policy.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to commute, telecommute, and/or work at various SDS locations throughout the U.S.
