Job description

Company Description
mxdwn, all that matters in movies.
Job Description
If you are a thoughtful, analytical writer with impeccable grammar, a passion for movies, and an ability to hit consistent deadlines we want you. Writers will be responsible tracking, researching, and writing informative, personable news stories that not only give "just the facts," but promote thoughtful discussion among an audience of film lovers. You must be able to communicate not only what's happening, but why it matters to the moviegoer and how it fits into the landscape of the film industry at large. A huge part of this job is framing the conversation surrounding the news you're covering.
We are a growing company with room for talented and driven writers to rise quickly. Please note that the position is UNPAID. This is an opportunity to be an integral part of a passionate team that loves talking about movies, but we are not able to offer compensation outside of some press access. This is not a full time position, but will require a regular time commitment of at least 8-10 hours per week. As mentioned above, content delivery on regular deadlines will be expected. All work is done remotely/from home, although there are opportunities to attend press events for those in Los Angeles and New York.
We Should Talk More If...
You love movies and love talking about movies
You have demonstrable writing experience. Please send us two samples or direct links to samples of your best work. Applications without writing samples will not be considered.
You've got great grammar and know how to proofread your own work.
You're awesome at internet research and know how to find reputable information about anything in just a few minutes.
We'll Be Extra-Excited If...
You've worked in the film industry or have prior experience covering the movies.
You know and/or are connected with a particular subsection of the film industry (like if you're the Lion King of all things Disney animation).
You're familiar with things like Wordpress, Google Drive, and Slack.
Please tell us a little about yourself and send us your samples and a resume with the email subject line "Movie News Writer/Researcher" followed by an answer to the riddle, "What's black and white and red all over?" so we know you've read and understand all of the above posting and you are not a robot.
