Job description

Role Summary

FP Movement is seeking a Senior Designer - Performance (Studio). The Senior Designer, Performance (Studio) contributes to the overall trend and direction in Cut & Sew and Seamless apparel product designs each season for FP Movement Studio product categories (i.e. yoga, Pilates, spin, HIIT, Dance and Training activities.). The Sr. Designer actively participates in designing seasonal collections, supervises/mentors team members to ensure that designs and resulting product are cohesive and appropriate for the Free People Movement customer.

Role Responsibilities
  • Research, Ideate and Design seasonal collections with flexibility across a variety of Movement apparel categories in collaboration with design leadership and partners within Design, Merchandising, Technical Design & Production.
  • Recognize and accurately forecast fashion and cultural trends and understand how to translate for the FP Movement customer. 
  • Use your experience performance design and understanding of technical fabrics and yarn attributes to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions. 
  • Develop and present creative ideas that express Free People's point of view in the market to ensure end use is observed in design.
  • Motivate, lead, develop and coach. Provide feedback and performance evaluation to direct reports (if applicable). Delegate and direct the daily activities of the assistants and junior team members, providing direction to the team.
  • Direct new fabric and fabric technique and trim direction for cut & sew and seamless performance categories.
  • Give compelling seasonal and line presentations with use of mocks, sketches and Ai renderings with specific end use in mind i.e. yoga, Pilates, spin, HIIT and other gym activities.
  • Collaborate across FP Movement team as a whole to ensure a cohesive overall assortment and be a true team player.
  • Work efficiently in a fast paced, multi season design environment with ability to balance competing priorities and support chase initiatives.

Skills

  • Expertise in taking aspirational ideas, focusing on the key details and make them work for a broader audience in both retail and wholesale.
  • Ability to research and report on industry trend direction and performance fabric trends and innovations seasonally.
  • Effectively use Adobe Suite, Ai Platforms (MidJourney, NewArc, PromeAi, Gemini), to create design packets and visually compelling presentations. 
  • Strong cross functional communication skills.

Role Qualifications
  • 7+ Design Experience within a performance or activewear category strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Apparel, Contour or Sportswear Design preferred.
  • Professional Design portfolio demonstrating skill, ability and aesthetic that aligns to the brand.
  • Excellent understanding of the FP Movement customer and activewear competitive space.
  • Experience and passion for designing apparel with performance integrity and end use as a top priority.
  • Strong technical knowledge of studio performance and/or knit apparel construction. Demonstrated experience designing apparel with seamless, warp knit and other performance fabrics.
  • Strong knowledge of Fabrics and Trims:
    • Understanding of seamless and technical yarn attributes.
    • Knowledge of performance fabric capabilities and applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of fabric treatments including print, pattern, fabric manipulation, embroideries etc. as well as wash and dye techniques
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Ability hand sketch, mock design protos and communicate design intentions and stories in compelling visual presentations.
  • Experience rendering in Ai platfroms for design process and presentation.
