A small number of companies are racing to build superhuman AI. They are doing it openly and at enormous scale, and admit they do not know how to control what they are building. Most Americans have not yet had the chance to understand what the deployment of these systems means for their jobs, their families, and their future, let alone been given a say.

Evitable was founded by David Krueger, one of the earliest and most credible voices on the risks of advanced AI. A professor of computer science who has spent over a decade at the front‑line of the field, David initiated the landmark Statement on AI Risk , the single sentence signed by the field's leading scientists that put extinction‑level concern on the global agenda. He co‑authored the paper that introduced the concept of "gradual disempowerment", and served as a founding research director at the UK's AI Security Institute, which he left to do what he believed mattered most and was missing: taking the warning directly to the public.

The risks posed by AI are immense and range from mass unemployment to mass surveillance, and even human extinction. But none of this is inevitable. Building ever more powerful AI depends on trillions of dollars of investments, a concentrated supply chain, and the cooperation of governments. That makes it a choice, a deliberate project that can be stopped. The public has a right to know what is being built, and a right to decide whether it should be built at all.

Evitable is a communications and movement‑building nonprofit that exists to inform the public and build the broad, nonviolent movement that puts the decision over whether, when, and how AI is built in the public's hands, rather than in those of the companies racing for dominance.

Evitable's founder has spent years convincing experts to take AI risk seriously. Evitable’s role is to bring this work to a broader audience: sounding the alarm, loudly and publicly, by building a movement ready to take action. Your job is to turn public concern into actionable, organised power.

This is a senior role requiring an ability to build out a program from the ground up. You’ll build the movement to transform the concerned public into an organised and mobilised base. You will set our movement building strategy and build the team that scales it.

In this role, you will work closely with the Communications Director. Comms will get the public's attention - your role will be to activate it.

• Develop and own the movement strategy, in collaboration with the ED and Comms Director.
• Drive grass‑roots movement growth, including awareness, buy‑in, and activation around Evitable’s core messages: the urgent need to stop AI in order to reduce societal‑scale risks to acceptable levels.
• Recruit, train, and develop a cohort of volunteer leaders who can take on organising responsibilities.
• Build and manage relationships with coalition partners, allied organisations, and potential supporters.
• Work with Communications staff and contractors to test and refine audience‑specific framings.
• Design and run collective actions and public‑facing campaigns, coordinating closely with Communications and external partners on messaging and timing.
• Establish a regular cadence of supporter engagement and track progress across the supporter base, distinguishing between AI safety community uptake and mainstream public uptake.
• Produce assessments of what is working, what is not, and what capacity is needed to scale.
• Hire, manage and grow a team of organisers as the programme scales.

• Significant experience in grassroots movement building, campaign organising, or advocacy. You will already be at a senior level, or looking to make a step up
• Direct experience building a movement, campaign, or organising programme from an early stage, not just managing an existing one. Someone who has been the first or second organiser at a growing campaign is ideal.
• Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and coalitions to expand reach
• A track record of recruiting, training, and developing volunteer programmes
• Experience running collective actions, public campaigns, or advocacy drives with measurable outcomes
• Comfort operating in early‑stage environments

• Experience in community, advocacy or campaign organising at scale
• Understanding of the AI risk and governance landscape
