The Opportunity:

The Resident Care Manager (RCM) is responsible to the Director of Care (DOC) for the management of the Resident Care Services within the long-term care residence (RCM-RN or RCM-LPN). The Resident Care Manager ensures the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the overall operation of the home in accordance with current applicable provincial standards, guidelines, and regulations, to ensure that the highest standard of resident care is delivered and maintained at all times.
What You Will Do:

  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of care staff and facilitates the orientation of qualified care team members to ensure a full staff complement is maintained in collaboration with the Director of Care and Education Services.
  • Ensures a high standard of performance and a strong resident service orientation by providing regular feedback and enforcing policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensures the completion of probationary and annual performance appraisals on all assigned neighbourhood nursing staff.
  • Ensures residents are welcomed in accordance with AgeCare policy and provincial standards including overseeing the move-in process of residents; ensures resident move-in assessments are completed.
  • Ensures Resident Pre-Move-in, Move-in and Annual Care Conferences are scheduled.
  • Keeps the Director of Care and site management team apprised of emerging issues.
  • Ensure that the care plan is resident centred, and that person centered language is used throughout the care Ensures medications are on site on day of move-in.
  • Ensures Medication Reconciliation on move-in and transfer process is initiated in LTC.
  • Assumes full responsibility for the operation of the department in the absence of the Director of Care.
  • In the absence of the Executive Director and Director of Care, the Resident Care Manager assumes responsibility for the management of the residence for the assigned shift


What You Will Need:

  • At least 5 years' progressive clinical nursing experience.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a leadership role, with demonstrated excellence in management, leadership, clinical judgment, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial legislation and standards:
    • Alberta: Continuing Care legislation and Continuing Care Health Service Standards.
    • British Columbia: Community Care and Assisted Living legislation, Residential Care Regulation, and WorkSafeBC requirements.
    • Ontario: Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Employment Standards Act, 2000, Occupational Health and Safety Act, infection prevention and control (IPAC), and Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Experience in caring for residents with Dementia.
  • Computer and Technology proficiency including experience and knowledge of Point Click Care and other software applications.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred
  • Current registration in good standing with the applicable provincial regulatory body:
  • Alberta: Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), as appropriate.
  • British Columbia: Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), as appropriate.
  • Ontario: College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
