General Summary Do you meet our minimum hiring standards. Please check before applying. Automotive Service Internship The Ada County Sheriff's Office Automotive Service Internship performs routine automotive maintenance and service work on agency vehicles.

This work follows established manufacturer guidelines and safety standards set by the Ada County Sheriff's Office. The position requires an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) G1 certification. It also requires careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a high level of accuracy.

While the technician will primarily work under the supervision of a Team Lead, there may be times when they are required to work independently. Essential Functions Interns in this area may perform, under supervision, the following duties that include, but are not limited to; Performs bumper to bumper diagnostics and repairs on light duty trucks and passenger vehicles, boats, busses, motorcycles, off road vehicles and personal watercraft. Services vehicles to manufacturer specifications or police needs.

Performs major vehicle repairs to manufacturer specifications. Prepares new patrol or detective vehicles for service. Installs overhead lights, siren and siren speaker, police radio, wiring harness, screen partition, shotgun rack, wig-wag headlight system, and antenna coax.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Assists others on complex repairs and troubleshooting. Performs related functions as required. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: An unpaid internship with the Ada County Sheriff's Office allows students to get professional experience, typically while obtaining credit for school.

If you are a student, please see your Department Internship Adviser for details on how to register for the credits. Job Requirements Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have an ASE G1 Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to keep a clean and organized work area; and Basic computer skills. Basic understanding of car parts and how they work. Familiarity with where different car parts go, like fuel lines, mufflers, and brake components.

Knowledge of basic tools, materials, and techniques used in car maintenance and repair. Awareness of safety rules and precautions when working with cars and in a shop. Ability to remove and replace car parts and make simple adjustments.

Skill in using basic tools and testing equipment. Ability to tell when a part needs to be cleaned, reused, or replaced. Ability to follow simple written and spoken instructions.

Basic understanding of electrical drawings and schematics. Work Environment & Physical Demands Ability to lift-up to 50 lbs. is required Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background check.

Must be comfortable with and be able to safely handle loaded firearms; Must be comfortable around police dogs; Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license; This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
