Job description

Amentum is seeking an CNC Machine Repair Technician IV at the subject matter expert level to join our Facilities - Operations and Maintenance team based in Durham, NC.
  • Typical work hours are 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM; hours may vary based on business demand.

The specialist performs as the technical expert with respect to installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and documenting the electrical/electronic, mechanical and controls needs of automated equipment in an industrial environment. Must be capable of providing instruction, mentoring and training less skilled technicians as needed. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve complex electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems.
The CNC Machine Repair Technician must have the ability to identify troubleshoot and correct any operational or safety-related issues and perform independent equipment root cause evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. Identifies and reports cost savings for documentation.

The scope of service includes the maintaining, development, execution, and continuous improvement of the preventative and predictive maintenance activities at the client's site. Some of the equipment included in the scope is:
  • Multi-Axis Wet and Dry CNC Grinders
  • Balancers
  • Central Coolant Systems
  • Pumps and Exhaust systems
  • Hydraulic and electrical systems

Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and repair specialized mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment across the facility.
  • Perform and assist with the alignment and leveling of CNC machinery to ensure optimal performance.
  • Communicate detailed updates on ongoing repairs to ensure smooth shift transitions.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineers and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide technical support during the installation or rearrangement of production equipment.
  • Continuously seek professional growth through available training and self-study in electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
  • Actively participate in customer lead Lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Fulfill all other assigned duties and support team-based operations to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Works with AC/DC control voltage's from (12-24V) through medium voltage motor controls and 480 volts, 3 phase.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Machine Tools and equipment.
  • Must understand and be capable of instrumentation and equipment calibration, for optimum performance.
  • Reads and understands electrical/electronic and mechanical schematics.
  • Demonstrates through understanding of AC/DC motor control.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of hydraulic and pneumatics as related to electronic controls.
  • Identifies, reviews, and recommends activities and upgrades/retrofits to improve maintenance and operation methods and equipment performance.
  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.
  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance with codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as performing job hazard analysis, following lockout/Tag out procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help troubleshooting and repair.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Demonstrates a high level of urgency and flexibility to meet emerging business needs.
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills, such as motivation, delegation, ownership, leading by example, well-developed organizational skills, excellent communication skills, etc.
  • Possesses the ability to lead complex technical work utilizing a wide variety of resources, including computers.
  • Cutting or grinding processes are highly desirable.
  • Able and willing to work in a tobacco-free environment and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial machinery maintenance with strong troubleshooting skills (electrical, electronic, and mechanical).

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the ability to safely operate an Ariel Lift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access databases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

Special Requirements:
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained

Compensation Details:
$38.00 -$40.00
