Job description

Kerlin Motor Company is looking for an Automotive Sales Consultant to join our team in Silver Lake, Indiana.

We have been serving our community since 1927, and while the automotive business has changed considerably over the last 99 years, our philosophy hasn't: take care of people, do business the right way, and build relationships that last.

We aren't looking for the stereotypical car salesperson. In fact, automotive sales experience isn't required.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates well, follows through, is comfortable learning new technology, and wants an opportunity to build a career based on their own performance.

Our sales process is built around what we call The Kerlin Way: straightforward pricing, transparent communication, no games, and treating customers the way we would want to be treated.

You'll work with customers shopping for everything from everyday transportation and used vehicles to new vehicles and specialty performance vehicles. You'll also have access to modern sales and CRM technology, ongoing training, and a team that wants to grow.

If you're competitive, personable, dependable, willing to learn, and motivated to build your own book of business, we'd like to talk with you.

Compensation & Schedule:

$500 per week base salary + Commission + performance bonuses

6-month income guarantee of $3,500 per month

Commission and bonuses paid out by the 15th of each month

5-day work week

Store hours:

MondayFriday: 8:30am5:00pm

Saturday: 8:30am2:00pm

One weekday off each week plus every Sunday

Closed all major holidays - If a holiday falls on a scheduled workday, you still keep your regular day off that week

(Example: Memorial Day Monday + your scheduled Wednesday off = Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday off)

Flexible scheduling when needed for family or personal commitments

This role is ideal for someone who wants consistency, growth, and a team environment where effort is rewarded and integrity matters.

Responsibilities

-Assist customers throughout the vehicle-buying process from initial contact through delivery and follow-up

-Build long-term customer relationships rather than focusing solely on individual transactions

-Respond promptly and professionally to internet leads, phone calls, texts, emails, and social media inquiries

-Learn our new and used vehicle inventory and confidently explain vehicles, features, technology, and available options

-Conduct professional vehicle demonstrations and test drives

-Ask good questions to understand each customer's needs instead of simply trying to sell them a vehicle

-Follow The Kerlin Way by providing a straightforward, transparent, low-pressure buying experience

-Consistently follow up with prospective customers using our CRM

-Maintain relationships with previous customers and actively develop repeat and referral business

-Prospect for new opportunities through phone, email, social media, community involvement, and personal networking

-Work with management to help customers evaluate trade-ins, financing options, incentives, and purchase decisions

-Assist with vehicle merchandising and ensuring inventory is properly presented

-Participate in ongoing product, sales, technology, and manufacturer training

-Maintain professional communication and follow-through before, during, and after every sale

-Contribute to team sales goals while taking ownership of individual performance

Requirements

Automotive sales experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person.

We're looking for someone who:

-Has strong communication and people skills

-Is comfortable starting conversations and building relationships

-Is dependable and follows through on commitments

-Has a positive attitude and is coachable

-Is self-motivated and comfortable working toward performance-based goals

-Can stay organized and consistently manage customer follow-up

-Is comfortable using computers, smartphones, texting, email, CRM systems, and social media

-Is willing to continually learn about vehicles, technology, financing, and the automotive industry

-Can work effectively both independently and as part of a small team

-Understands that great customer service doesn't end when the vehicle is sold

-Has a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

-Is able to work the dealership's required sales schedule

Previous automotive experience is welcome, but experience in retail, hospitality, banking, insurance, customer service, outside sales, real estate, wireless sales, or other relationship-driven businesses can translate extremely well into this position.

More important than where you've worked before is how you treat people, how hard you're willing to work, and whether you want to grow.

Why Kerlin Motor Company?

Kerlin Motor Company isn't trying to become the biggest dealership. We're building a dealership people want to buy from and a company our team is proud to represent.

We're entering our 100th year in business with plans to continue growing, investing in technology, expanding our inventory, and reaching customers well beyond our traditional market.

For the right person, this isn't simply an opening for another salesperson. It's an opportunity to get in at an important point in Kerlin Motor Company's growth and build a long-term career with us.
