Associate, Motion Graphic Designer
The Brand Design team is responsible for shaping and maintaining LA28's visual identity, ensuring a cohesive and impactful brand presence across all platforms and touchpoints. This includes a variable emblem system, typography, color palette, imagery, patterns, motion, and more, all elements that work together to create a distinctive and memorable brand experience.
Beyond developing and managing the visual brand, the team leads key Games design initiatives, such as the brand design system, pictograms, torch, and beyond. Additionally, they provide internal creative services to support the broader organization, bringing the spirit of LA28 to life through thoughtful and strategic design.
We're looking for a versatile, detail-oriented Associate Motion Designer with 3+ years of experience to support a wide range of creative motion needs across the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This role will contribute to key Games deliverables while also fulfilling internal creative service requests from various functional areas, ensuring brand consistency and excellence across every touchpoint.
The ideal candidate is a true Swiss Army knife, equally comfortable animating emblems and program marks as they are producing sport presentation graphics, broadcast packages, digital and social video content, as well as fulfilling requests from across the organization like animated presentations, event visuals, partner-facing materials, and everything in between. They should bring strong animation chops, thoughtful and purposeful storytelling, and a polished eye for design.
Just as important as the craft: this person needs to be self-directed. We need someone who can manage their own workload, prioritize competing requests as they come in, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality, on-brand work.
The Associate Motion Designer will report to the Manager of Illustration & Motion Graphics and collaborate closely with the larger Brand Design team, key partners across Marketing, and stakeholders throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work within the LA28 brand design system to ensure consistency and visual cohesion across all deliverables
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of the LA28 motion design language across Olympic and Paralympic touchpoints
  • Collaborate in the development of mood boards, style frames, and animatics to communicate motion concepts during the exploration phase
  • Animate 2D graphics, emblems, program marks, and brand elements such as Pictograms as looping animations, ensuring every motion decision carries a storytelling element and is on-brand
  • Design and produce dynamic motion graphics across a wide range of digital formats and aspect ratios including social content, venue takeover, and live event screens
  • Design and produce broadcast and digital content assets including lower thirds, animated transitions, and video packaging elements for social and digital platforms
  • Build and animate graphic packages for sport presentation including opening sequences, in-game presentations, and in-venue branded content for live event environments
  • Create seamless looping animations optimized for LED displays, ribbon boards, IPTVs, and large-format venue screens
  • Manage the full motion production pipeline from concept and ideation through animation, export, and final delivery, organizing and delivering assets according to project specifications, venue technical requirements, and established naming conventions
  • QA all motion assets thoroughly before delivery to ensure they meet both creative and technical standards
  • Work with the Manager of Motion Graphics and the broader Brand Design team in the execution of key Games deliverables and internal creative service requests
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Marketing and other functional areas to fulfill motion design needs across the organization
  • Present motion concepts and work-in-progress to internal teams and stakeholders in a clear and organized manner
  • Implement creative feedback efficiently, iterating thoughtfully while staying true to the original creative intent
  • Contribute to the creation of motion templates, MOGRTs, and rendered asset libraries that allow the broader organization to produce on-brand content at scale
Background & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional motion design experience in an integrated marketing, agency/studio, or broadcast environment
  • Strong design fundamentals in composition, typography, and storytelling with a solid understanding of how they translate into motion
  • Understanding of character animation and the 12 principles of animation including intentional and storytelling motion
  • Strong eye for design with keen attention to detail and the ability to QA before final delivery
  • Strong Proficient in Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Media Encoder as primary tools for motion design and asset delivery
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, with a bonus for Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya, or Unreal
  • Experience in taking a project through typical design phases including research, ideation, concept, approval, and final production
  • Proficient in macOS and comfortable working within a Mac-based creative environment

  • Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA
  • Most of the work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment

The annual base salary range for this position is $69,000.00 - $75,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.
