Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
To collect, prepare, and process, in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, all information necessary for Patient Admission/Registration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
  • Answers, incoming telephone calls in a prompt (within 3 rings), courteous, and professional manner; and handles al inquires or transfers calls to appropriate area.
  • Receives, records, and files Patient Reservation requests from Physicians as designated by Hospital policy.
  • Assigns beds to new and transferred patients.
  • Greet and register all patients entering the Hospital for Admitting/Registration services.
  • Renders courteous service to patients, physicians, visitors, patient's family, and Hospital personnel.
  • Conducts admission interviews. Schedules and telephone patients with assigned admission time.
  • Obtains all necessary demographic and financial information from patients in Admitting, ED, Outpatient, Labor and Deliver, and other Patient locations.
  • Copies insurance cards and picture ID's.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures on consents for treatment, payment guarantees, insurance forms, and release of information forms.
  • Attaches the Patient's identification bracelet.
  • Works very closely with Staff on the Nursing Unit when assigning beds.
  • When patients are in distress, does not wait for Central Transport but accompanies patient to ED or room, immediately.
  • Obtains wheelchairs for patients when necessary, and is familiar with safety rules when seating patients in wheelchairs (lock wheels).
  • Types death certificates and stillborn certificates and contacts the appropriate Physician for completion of the Certificate. Contacts funeral home when certificate is completed.
  • Complies with the Board of Health rules pertaining to length of time (36 hours) body may remain in Hospital morgue. Responsible for calling Board of Health for extensions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of insurance and payment procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of computer operations related to Admission/Registration activities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellent customer service.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or general education degree.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • One to two years of previous work related experience.
  • Medical terminology.
