We are currently seeking Chief Residents for the 2027-2028 academic year within our Internal Medicine and Transitional Year residency programs at our facility in Berwyn, Illinois. Each year, we invite two individuals to join our leadership team.
About Us:
Our organization operates a 374-bed hospital featuring three residency programs: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Transitional Year. We are looking for two Chief Residents to strengthen our Internal Medicine and Transitional Year programs, collaborating closely with 42 Internal Medicine residents and 14 Transitional Year residents.
Position Overview:
The Chief Resident position is a one-year opportunity designed for recent residency graduates to enhance their teaching and leadership capabilities while gaining clinical experience as attending physicians. Many of our past Chief Residents have successfully transitioned into careers in academic medicine, competitive fellowships, and hospital medicine. Responsibilities for Chief Residents include:
- Teaching and Education:
- Leading educational sessions for residents and medical students through Chief-led conferences.
- Delivering CME-accredited lectures to fellow physicians.
- Organizing and managing simulation workshops and high-fidelity simulations.
- Leadership and Administration:
- Representing the residency programs on essential hospital and program committees.
- Leading Quality Improvement Projects alongside residents.
- Clinical Teaching and Supervision:
- Overseeing residents in continuity clinics and inpatient medicine settings.
By the conclusion of the academic year, Chief Residents will have established a solid foundation in medical education, hospital leadership, and administrative skills, equipping them for various career paths in hospital medicine, academic medicine, or private practice.
Application Criteria:
Qualified candidates should fulfill the following criteria:
- Possession of a Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD or DO).
- Completion of an Internal Medicine Residency Training Program; Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine.
- Demonstrated interest in medical education, teaching, and curriculum development.
- Dedication to leadership and mentorship.
- Willingness to attend the APDIM or ACGME Chief Resident Conference in the spring prior to the Chief Resident year.
- Valid authorization to work in the US. Only ECFMG-sponsored J1 visa holders are eligible to apply if a work visa is necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:
This role offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes:
- Annual salary of $102,749.
- Reimbursement for the ABIM Board exam fee (estimated at $1,430 in 2026).

- Funding for prior approved Chief leadership training conference in the spring before employment begins.
- Potential moonlighting opportunities within the MacNeal Hospitalist team (covering night shifts remotely on weekends) and/or at external organizations, depending on work authorization status.
