Job description

Georgia Military College is in search of a Full Time Bus Driver & Transportation Specialist.

Primarily drives GMC buses and vehicles to transport students, faculty, and staff personnel to/from activities and events at the discretion of GMC. Position requires an individual to work an irregular schedule and hours.  This is a 10 month varying schedule position.

This position is not TRS eligible. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primarily drives GMC buses and vehicles to transport students, faculty, and staff personnel to/from activities and events at the discretion of GMC. Position requires an individual to work an irregular schedule and hours.
  • Perform year-round cleaning, detailing, stocking, and basic maintenance of buses, including seasonal deep cleaning and holding tank service.
  • Transport, fuel, and support the operational readiness of buses, minibuses, and other fleet vehicles, including deliveries to repair facilities and insurance claim appointments.
  • Assist with the evaluation, onboarding, and training of CDL drivers and minibus operators, including pre-trip inspections, vehicle familiarization, and supervised driving instruction.
  • Assist with exercising buses during slow periods (summer months)
  • Assist with test drives for active mechanical work orders to verify repairs and performance

*Criminal background check and drug screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

Required Skills:

Minimum Required:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Georgia Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger & School Bus endorsements and no air brakes restrictions.

Preferred Level:

CDL trained/certified at Technical School

Minimum Required:  1 yrs. experience driving commercial/charter buses

Preferred Level:  3+ yrs. experience driving charter/commercial buses

Minimum Required:  Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues and be able to work with basic tools to conduct minor repairs on vehicles

Preferred Level:  Experience as a basic mechanic
