Job description

Overview

The Manager of Data Center Monitoring Operations is responsible for overseeing the execution of local data center operations at one or more data center properties. The Manager of Data Center Operations will have experience in data center network system operations and possess knowledge of large-scale data centers, including state-of-the-art distribution systems and monitoring systems. In addition, the Manager of Data Center Operations shall participate in the scheduling, coordination and completion of all significant planned and emergency maintenance events and ensure these activities are executed in a controlled and proven method to ensure the reliability of the critical loads supported by these systems.

The Manager of Data Center Operations is ultimately responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing operational strategies to ensure Viapath's data center operations achieve the highest level of availability.

This Hybrid position can be based at either ViaPath office located in Mobile, AL or Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Execute all aspects of data center operations including the operation, maintenance and repair of all mission critical equipment and systems supporting a 24x7 data center operation to achieve 99% or greater uptime and compliance with customer SLAs.
  • Supervises all activity and installations, in coordination with internal and external resources, to ensure system design, installation and testing adhere to operational standards.
  • Validation of equipment and or data center applications during commissioning along with all operational documentation.
  • Supervise data center team members to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, sequence of operations and maintenance standards to guarantee execution of ViaPath's periodic maintenance program and maintenance calendar.
  • Develop, implement and audit local standard operating procedures, sequence of operations and maintenance standards to be in compliance with ViaPath's standards and industry best practices.
  • Supervise local change management processes including the review and approval of all Method of Procedures (MOPs) for maintenance and one-time/emergency repair events in coordination with relevant ViaPath personnel.
  • Act as primary technical and operational contact for data center customers - both as the technical lead and local point of escalation during emergency events and day to day operations. Develop knowledge of customer's core business and the business function of the customer's datacenter operations.
  • Manage technical and operational incidents at the property, resource coordination, customer communication, root-cause analysis and post event remediation.
  • Work with internal customers to define and subsequently implement KPI's and reports, based on business goals (metrics).
  • Identify trends and analyze risks to articulate implications and impact to data center operations. Track operational metrics and other data to provide Senior Management oversight and control for both snapshot data and long-term trend analysis.
  • Identify process-based improvements that generate operational and financial efficiencies including the development and presentation of the business case.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in system monitoring.
  • Training staff in new technologies and systems monitoring procedures.
  • Perform regular upgrades to ensure systems remain updated and compliant with data center and security standards.
  • Collaborating with other team members to identify and implement system improvements.
  • Support various accreditation initiatives, including, but not limited to, SOC2, ISO 27001, PCI, etc. as may be required by ViaPath.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent related experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • 8+ years of experience working in Infrastructure/Cloud/Hardware with a background in Strategy, Capacity Planning, Supply Chain Optimization, technology strategy consulting.
  • 3+ years of supervisory/management experience leading teams.
  • Solarwinds Orion experience is required.
  • Datadog and Check MK experience is desired.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience distilling diverse data points into actionable insights and recommendations, to quickly separate signal from noise for executive communication and decision making.
  • Business acumen and intuition, with the experience in forming and refining hypotheses into an actionable analysis and recommendation.
  • Experience in completing multiple cloud/infrastructure/hardware efficiency or optimization projects.
  • Technical experience in infrastructure, hardware or similar designs.
  • Experience collaborating and working with internal and external organizations and individuals.
  • Experience building decision scenarios & options and communicating at all levels of the org.
