Monetization Director information

What does a monetization director do?

A Monetization Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to generate revenue for a company, particularly through digital products, advertising, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. They analyze market trends, oversee pricing models, and collaborate with product, marketing, and sales teams to maximize profitability. Their role often includes optimizing user experience to balance customer satisfaction with business goals, and they use data-driven insights to identify new revenue opportunities and improve existing ones.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a monetization director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Monetization Director, you need expertise in revenue strategy, data analytics, and digital product management, often backed by a degree in business, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, A/B testing platforms, and CRM systems, as well as experience with monetization models, is essential. Strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and communication skills help drive strategic initiatives and align teams toward revenue goals. These skills are crucial for optimizing business growth, maximizing profitability, and adapting to evolving market opportunities.

What are some common challenges faced by a monetization director when balancing user experience with revenue goals?

A Monetization Director often faces the challenge of implementing revenue-generating strategies—like in-app purchases, ads, or subscription models—without negatively impacting the user experience. Striking this balance requires close collaboration with product, marketing, and UX teams to ensure that monetization initiatives are both effective and user-friendly. Continuous testing, data analysis, and user feedback are essential to refine approaches and avoid alienating the user base. Overcoming these challenges can lead to sustainable growth and improved customer satisfaction.

Job description

The Role:

We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Pricing Director to join our Product Portfolio Strategy & Operations team. In this role, you will lead end-to-end pricing transformation across strategy, packaging design, cross-functional alignment, and execution. You will play a critical role in shaping portfolio monetization by harmonizing and simplifying packaging structures, advancing commercialization priorities, and evolving monetization models for AI and usage-based offerings.

The ideal candidate combines strong enterprise SaaS monetization expertise, advanced financial acumen, and proven leadership in orchestrating complex transformation programs across Product, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Pricing Transformation:

  • Lead end-to-end pricing transformation to harmonize packaging, simplify commercial structures, and scale monetization across the portfolio
  • Architect future-state offer structures, entitlement logic, bundling, commercial guardrails, and customer migration paths
  • Evolve AI and usage-based monetization by defining value metrics and designing hybrid, consumption-based pricing models
  • Build and maintain the transformation roadmap, including sequencing, milestones, dependencies, and decision frameworks

Execution & Change Management:

  • Orchestrate cross-functional execution across commercial systems, systems readiness, and customer migration plans
  • Lead change management strategies, including executive updates, field readiness, adoption planning, and escalation governance
  • Partner closely with Sales Enablement and field leadership to equip go-to-market teams with necessary tools, guidance, and collateral

Analytics & Insights:

  • Build data-driven business cases using financial modeling and advanced analysis
  • Define and track KPIs to measure post-launch performance, monetization impact, and packaging simplification outcomes
  • Leverage AI-augmented analytics and automation tools to enhance decision support and recommendations

Qualifications:

  • 10-12+ years of experience in SaaS pricing, packaging, monetization strategy, portfolio strategy, or related functions (management consulting experience is a plus)
  • Deep expertise in enterprise software pricing models, including subscription, usage-based, tiered, and value-based strategies
  • Proven track record operating at a Director level, leading complex strategic initiatives in matrixed environments
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills, with a track record of translating complex data into executive-ready insights
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and storytelling skills across technical, commercial, and leadership audiences
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)

Salary Range: $147,000 - $196,000
