Job description

Molecular Technologist Supervisor

The Molecular Technologist Supervisor for PetVet Dx provides laboratory technical consulting for the laboratory testing sites. This includes monitoring of quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, and competency assessments for all lab and non-lab testing personnel. This supervisor writes and updates policies for new and existing procedures. In addition, performs all procedures and educates laboratory testing personnel according to recognized laboratory standards with emphasis on age specific standards as associated with job-related policies and procedures. The Molecular Technologist Supervisor has the responsibility of assuring that personnel at designated testing sites performing laboratory procedures meet CLIA, COLA and MLD guidelines for testing. Assures that laboratory testing personnel are following OSHA and MLD mandated safety guidelines. Must be able to travel to all MLD testing sites. Performs laboratory testing in competency assessed sections of the laboratory.

Laboratory Analysis, Research & Technical Parameters

  • Provide technical interpretation of genetics results
  • Maintain quality control and high standards throughout the life cycle of each project
  • Provide consultations with physicians regarding technical aspects of assays
  • Perform sequencing, pyrosequencing, and real time PCR
  • Ensure that all aspects of clinical lab activities are performed according to CLIA, CAP, State, and JCAHO regulations
  • Write and review all technical documents associated with clinical implementation including SOP's validation material, presentations, and publications
  • Provide scientific and technical input in internal and clinical trial projects
  • Ensure timeliness of clinical assay reporting
  • Maintain laboratory safety and applicable protocols at all times
  • Prioritize all tasks /duties with a research project
  • Lead internal research activities that address product development

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Supervise laboratory technicians, work with clients, and direct assignment of duties
  • Responsible for retaining staff on research projects
  • Direct performance management, performance reviews and coaching of laboratory personnel in conjunction with Human Resource guidelines

Product Sales and Growth

  • Successfully build and execute a monthly business plan with quarterly updates in alignment with our service and sales process
  • Achieve individual sales revenue quota weekly to be reviewed quarterly and annually
  • Effectively and successfully service/sell cross departmentally within a veterinarian school and affiliates including regional labs and veterinary internal labs by articulating our value-based solutions to targeted customers, affiliates, and prospects
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively present to small and medium sized groups

  • Pursues the designated knowledge and/or experience with a positive attitude

Job Qualifications

  • Hold one or more college degrees in the sciences (biology, chemistry, physics)
  • Five to ten years of training and work experience in a clinical molecular genetics/pathology or veterinary laboratory reviewing and interpreting test data
  • Previously demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to anticipate and prioritize work with minimal direction
  • Physical ability with regards to vision include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to occasionally lift office products of up to 30 pounds, standing and/or walking continuously or for long periods of time

Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to perform essential job functions.
