What is a modeling summer?

A Modeling Summer job typically refers to a temporary or seasonal position where individuals work as fashion models during the summer months. These jobs often involve participating in photo shoots, runway shows, or promotional events for clothing brands, magazines, or advertising campaigns. Summer modeling opportunities are popular among students or aspiring models looking to gain experience and build their portfolios. The work can be found through modeling agencies, open casting calls, or direct bookings from clients. Successful candidates usually possess a strong portfolio, professional attitude, and the ability to adapt to different assignments.

What can I expect from a typical day during a modeling summer program?

During a Modeling Summer program, your days are likely to be a mix of photo shoots, runway practice, and workshops on topics like posing, personal branding, and industry etiquette. You'll often collaborate with photographers, stylists, and other aspiring models, learning through both instruction and hands-on experience. The schedule can be fast-paced, with early call times and multiple activities each day, but it offers a valuable opportunity to build your portfolio and network within the industry. Teamwork and adaptability are key, as you'll frequently work in group settings and need to quickly adjust to new creative directions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Model, you need strong physical presentation, posing ability, and a professional portfolio, with experience or training in runway and photographic work being highly beneficial. Familiarity with industry-standard booking platforms, comp card creation, and photo editing software is often required. Confidence, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills help models build relationships with clients, photographers, and agencies. These skills and qualities are crucial for success as they enable models to meet diverse client needs, adapt to various assignments, and maintain a positive reputation in a highly competitive industry.

Modeling Intern positions are typically entry-level internships aimed at providing industry insight and training. While both roles involve modeling activities, Modeling Summer is more focused on active participation, whereas Modeling Interns often focus on learning and support tasks.

We Do Consulting Differently
Launch Your Consulting Career with Impact
As a Summer Associate in BRG's Retail Performance Improvement (RPI) practice, you'll work alongside experienced consultants to help retailers, consumer brands, and private equity clients solve some of their most complex operational and financial challenges. From day one, you'll contribute to projects that drive measurable impact-improving profitability, optimizing operations, and supporting value creation across the retail and consumer ecosystem.
RPI teams partner with clients ranging from Fortune 500 retailers and CPG companies to private equity sponsors and portfolio companies. Our work spans strategy, cost transformation, supply chain, merchandising, store operations, omnichannel performance, and enterprise execution-always with a focus on turning insight into action.
What You'll Do
RPI supports clients through periods of transformation, growth, and change-helping leadership teams make better decisions, operate more efficiently, and unlock value. As a Summer Associate, your work will be hands-on, fast-paced, and team-based, with exposure to both strategic analysis and real-world implementation.
Your role will combine analytical problem-solving, structured thinking, and clear communication, while giving you a front-row seat to how consulting teams work with clients in dynamic environments.
Your work as a Summer Associate may include:
  • Analyzing financial and operational data to identify cost savings, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities
  • Supporting development of business cases, forecasts, and value capture models
  • Conducting market, competitor, and operational research across retail and consumer sectors
  • Translating analysis into clear, client-ready slides and written deliverables
  • Contributing to diagnostics related to supply chain, merchandising, store operations, labor, pricing, or omnichannel performance
  • Partnering with consultants and client teams to support workstreams and deliverables

  • Meaningful Ownership: Your contributions matter-Summer Associates are trusted with real responsibility
  • Professional Development: Build core consulting skills in problem-solving, communication, and executive-ready analysis

Who You Are

  • Education: Progress toward a Bachelor's in business, economics, finance, accounting, analytics, engineering, supply chain, operations, or a related field. A GPA of 3.6 or higher is highly desirable.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of prior work or internship experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong Excel skills required. Familiarity with PowerPoint is expected. Experience with SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or other analytical tools is a plus, but curiosity and willingness to learn matter most.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to structure ambiguous problems, analyze data, and think logically about solutions.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain analysis and insights.
  • Adaptability & Initiative: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, taking ownership of tasks, and learning through feedback.

Why Join Us?
  • Work on high-impact retail and consumer transformation projects
  • Learn from consultants with deep industry and functional expertise
  • Build a strong foundation for a career in consulting, strategy, or operations
  • Experience a collaborative, supportive, and high-performance culture
