Sr NPD Project Engineer - Simulations
Position Summary
As a Sr NPD Project Engineer - Simulations, you will support new product development and sustaining engineering activities through the application of physics based simulation and analytical methods. This role focuses on finite element and multibody dynamics analysis to evaluate, improve, and troubleshoot Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear and related products. -based simulation and analytical methods. Primary / Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine innovative physical models and computational methods for Multiphysics / multiphase applications.
  • Design, fabrication and testing of prototypes to validate and improve simulations. Create DOEs to explore impact of variables as needed.
  • Conduct multibody dynamics and finite element analysis to check design feasibility and identify improvements. Physics to include electrostatics, electrodynamics, linear and non-linear structural mechanics, which may or may-not be coupled in Multiphysics environment.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation, including analysis reports, test summaries, and design recommendations.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and sketches to support analysis activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including New Product Development, sustaining engineering, Innovation, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain. Provide simulation and analysis support to other engineering teams as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting on new and existing products or processes.
  • Develop schedules, coordinate and manage projects of minor to major size with little to no supervision.
  • Prepare budgetary and resource information regarding projects or parts of projects in area of responsibility. May include preparation of request for expanded license/software/hardware access.
  • Research externally to ensure current understanding of latest simulation/analysis development and identify potential applicability for G&W electric. Shares learning with others.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of professional engineering experience
  • Experience with commercially available packages such as Ansys, COMSOL, Nastran, Adams, CST.
  • Knowledge of advanced FEA skills, like transient, non-linear structural or multiphysics analysis.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical standards and specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
  • Experience correlating simulation results with prototype or laboratory test data.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and desire to learn new methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Medium Voltage electrical equipment or power systems.
  • Proficiency with 3D parametric CAD systems (Creo or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with optimization algorithms.
  • Experience supporting both new product development and sustaining engineering activities.

What we offer you:
Typical pay is $98,872 - 128,577 annually.
