Job description

RN - System Operations Center

Location: Fairbanks Hall

IU Health is Indiana's largest and most comprehensive healthcare system, and the #1 ranked healthcare provider in the state. We are seeking a dedicated RN - System Operations Center to join our team. This full-time role will be responsible for evaluating, coordinating, processing, and screening patient transfers into and out of the IU Health System, ensuring seamless communication and optimal patient care during transfer and transport.

Position Overview:

The RN - System Operations Center evaluates and coordinates patient transfers, collaborates with healthcare partners, and manages all components of patient care needs during the transfer or transport process. This role involves obtaining appropriate medical and demographic information, facilitating communication between referring and receiving physicians, and ensuring the appropriate level of care and timely transfer of patients into or out of the IU Health System. The RN will coordinate with various departments and assign beds for all scheduled and unscheduled admissions, transfers, and transports, supporting safe and efficient patient movement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and coordinate patient transfers, screening for appropriateness and readiness.

• Collaborate with referring and receiving physicians, as well as healthcare facilities, to ensure seamless communication.

• Obtain and document accurate medical and demographic information.

• Perform essential duties related to patient transfer, transport, and care coordination.

• Coordinate all components of patient care during transfer/transport, including bed assignments for scheduled and unscheduled admissions.

• Engage appropriate departments to facilitate timely transfers and transport processes.

• Maintain detailed documentation of transfer activities and communication.

• Support operational efficiency and patient safety through effective coordination and communication.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

• 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute care environment such as critical care, emergency department, or flight nursing.

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA).

• Strong knowledge of patient transfer protocols, resource management, and clinical documentation standards.

• Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Case management or resource management experience is a plus.

• Pediatric experience strongly preferred
