Milwaukee Mobile Crisis Registered Nurse

Behavioral Health Services (BHS)

Hourly Pay Range: $33.92 - $50.88

SIGN ON BONUS $7,500 &

Shift Differentials: $5/hr for weekends and 2nd shift

Job Summary: This Registered Nurse position is as a member of the Milwaukee Mobile Crisis team. This team provides intervention services to Milwaukee County residents experiencing a crisis. Registered Nurses are a key part of this multidisciplinary team that provides crisis assessment, stabilization, linkage, and follow-up services over the phone and in person, face to face, and in the community seven days per week. Candidates with experience working with older adults in Mental Health Nursing or a related field are encouraged to apply.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric, psychosocial, and health assessments of individuals with significant mental health and co-occurring needs based upon knowledge of the normal bio-psycho-social development of youth, adults, and older adults.
  • Intervene in and manage the acute crisis phase of mental and medical illness in the community. De-escalate, stabilize, and resolve mental health crisis events, which may include remaining with the client in their community setting until stabilized and linked with other services.
  • Effectively reduce any danger to self or others with therapeutic interventions, arranging for immediate services and connecting to services and supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and the person is engaged in therapeutic services.
  • Implement the plan of care by utilizing psychotherapeutic interventions, related to crisis assessment as well as the development of a crisis plan. Provide assurance through follow up contacts to ensure response plans developed during the crisis are being carried out.
  • Consult and collaborate with the Community Access to Recovery Services (CARS) team, Wraparound Milwaukee, community hospitals, law enforcement, Crisis Services, and other mental health professionals. Participate in community engagement and education regarding crisis management, mental health, and medical services.
  • Assist with providing transportation and basic medical interventions (i.e. first aid) as needed. Provide support to BHS service programs (including Access Clinics and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team Registered Nurses), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) partners, and network providers as assigned. Participate in community engagement and outreach.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the United States, able to establish residency in the State of Wisconsin within six (6) months of start date.
  • Valid United States driver’s license, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s of Science or Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Licensed as a professional registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin. License must be active and in good standing without unresolved past or pending actions.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in Mental Health Nursing or a related field.
  • Able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time within the community.
  • Willing and able to work irregular hours due to frequent overtime, weekend work, or shift rotation.
  • Willing and able to have regular or frequent on-call availability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with older adults in Mental Health Nursing or a related field.

NOTE:  This original application is open to permanent residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the state of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
