Job description

Responsibilities
Leads collection operations at donor centers and mobile blood drives to ensure safe, compliant blood products and exceptional donor and sponsor service. Supervises and develops collections staff, performs whole blood and automated collection procedures, and ensures adherence to written procedures and quality requirements. Position is designated essential during severe weather or emergency operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This position supervises staff.
Provide leadership and direct supervision to collection operations at donor centers and mobiles to ensure consistent, compliant blood collection that meets or exceeds goals.
Directly work in operations and perform blood collections, including automated procedures (Double Red Cell, Plasma, Platelets, combinations) as needed.
Plan, prioritize, and organize daily workflow; communicate goals; monitor donor flow and productivity; and ensure timely and accurate operational reporting.
Ensure strict compliance with written procedures and regulatory requirements; respond to audit observations; perform validations for equipment, new/revised procedures, and forms prior to implementation.
Ensure staff are trained, competent, and compliant with documentation systems; supervise onboarding, skills maintenance, and required annual reviews.
Provide recognition, coaching, feedback, mentoring, corrective action, and performance evaluations.
Rapidly identify operational problems, implement immediate corrections, and collaborate with support departments to prevent recurrence.
Maintain complete and accurate operational and compliance records; oversee equipment quality control through maintenance software and assign monthly/annual QC.
Model organizational values; promote outstanding customer service and effective donor reaction management; address and resolve customer concerns.
May perform payroll approval or related functions such as PTO approval, timecard monitoring, sick time documentation, etc.
Participate in interviews and hiring decisions.
Prepare routine and ad hoc reports; attend required meetings, conferences, seminars, and assigned projects.
Make recommendations to improve business unit practices and processes.
Participate in pre-draw setup and end-of-day cleanup, packing, and controlled storage of supplies as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma
Associate or bachelor's degree: Preferred
Related Experience:
Familiarity with standards and regulations from applicable regulatory agencies such as American Association of Blood Banking (AABB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Customer service experience.
Required Licenses / Certification
Valid driver's license may be required depending on division; reliable transportation required for travel to donor centers and mobile locations.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret medical, technical, regulatory, and quality procedures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, desktop applications, and computer software systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology, phlebotomy techniques, and whole blood and automated collection procedures and equipment.
Effective written and oral communication.
Strong attention to detail and organization.
Persuasive and customer service skills
Resolve donor and customer concerns and maintain composure under pressure.
Work in a team environment or independently; be responsive and available to management as issues arise.
Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives and solve problems within established policies and procedures.
Plan and coordinate multiple workflows; monitor donor reactions and qualitative medical information as appropriate to role.
The proposed annual salary for this position is $64,625 - $68,640.
