Job description

MCA, your trusted advisor for wireless communications, data, and security, is seeking an experienced Communication Systems Technician II in the Lancaster, SC area to support our fast-growing Voice division.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving complex equipment, programming, system, and installation problems/issues. (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.)
  • Fixing the system if things go wrong and bringing communications back online to public safety, hospitals, and other mission-critical customers.  
  • Partnering with customers to develop an installation/programming strategy and coordinate with the team to ensure access to locations where products will be installed.
  • Assisting in the scoping out and quoting of service, installation, and programming projects.
  • Supporting the development of talent and technical skill sets of the service team.
  • Completing assigned tickets properly and on time.
  • Making minor modifications to electronic circuitry per customer request and/or deploying factory software/firmware updates.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to learn and be mentored on new technologies in communications and equipment.
  • Serving in an on-call rotation and providing 24/7 technical support. 
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:
  • Minimum two (2) years, an average of 5+ years of technical service and installation experience.
  • Proficient with radio equipment – installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven track record of providing hands-on operational, technical, and installation support/service to complex radio and other wireless communications systems/equipment (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge/understanding of radio theory, RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands, and communications systems.
  • Subscriber programming expert and can successfully program various radio types based on customer requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with end users and third parties.
  • P25 and/or MotoTRBO experience is required.
YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.

On-call for critical systems maintenance may be required. First shift hours are Monday–Friday, with occasional 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends depending on project schedules.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This team primarily supports customers throughout Washington, DC, and the state of Maryland. Traveling to job sites is required to meet the company's and customers' needs.


A company vehicle will be provided for all work-related travel. The individual must have a valid driver's license and successfully pass our Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
