About the Position 

A Limited Energy Security Systems Technician installs, maintains, and repairs low-voltage security systems, following electrical designs and building plans to ensure safe and accurate installations. This role aligns with Company policies, procedures, regulations, and complies with all relevant specifications, codes, MN licensing requirements, and union agreements. When assigned to a leadership position, the Limited Energy Security Systems Technician will oversee and guide team members in the installation, maintenance, and repair of low-voltage security systems. This includes ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant codes. The technician will also be responsible for mentoring and training team members, monitoring their performance, and providing feedback to ensure high-quality work and adherence to safety standards

Day in the Life 

  • Installing and configuring various security systems such as intrusion detection, video surveillance cameras (CCTV), access control systems (key cards, biometrics, electronic locks), and fire alarms.
  • Perform systems installation from inception to completion to meet customer needs and ensure compliance with current industry practices and Company guidelines, building codes, safety, and legal requirements.
  • Installs pathways and support systems for cabling infrastructure.
  • Pulls and installs cable infrastructure and riser systems.
  • Mounts and fastens control panels, door and window contacts, sensors, or video cameras, and attaches communication wiring to accurately connect the components as required.
  • Installs electrical components, equipment, and/or systems using hand tools, power tools, or other installation equipment.
  • Assists in testing circuits and sensors in accordance with wiring and systems specifications, current industry and Company standards.
  • Performing routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure systems function correctly.
  • Diagnosing issues, repairing or replacing faulty equipment, and restoring system functionality.
  • Upgrading existing systems.
  • Integrating systems with other security or IT infrastructure.
  • Assisting in designing security systems.
  • Interacting with clients to understand their needs.
  • Explaining system functionality.
  • Providing training on how to use and manage security systems.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed, including installations, repairs, and system configurations.
  • Ensuring all installations and repairs adhere to industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a current and valid MN Power Limited Technician (PLT) License.
  • Proficiency in low-voltage electrical wiring, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret and work from technical diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Aptitude for diagnosing and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Ensure precision and accuracy in installations and repairs.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients & team members to create and maintain positive working relationships.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience with the installation and trim-out of systems. related to voice and data infrastructure, camera systems, and card access systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with construction and general industry safety standards and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Holds a valid driver’s license and has reliable transportation.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • JATC apprenticeship program experience.

Travel 

  • Daily travel to work site assignments is required for the Limited Energy Security Systems Technician. Additionally, there may be opportunities for regional and national travel on occasion, allowing for broader exposure and experience in various locations.

Hourly Range

  • $40.88-$53.62, based on experience and qualifications.
