Job description

Job Title: Director, Accounting
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Sr. Director, Controller
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Baltimore, MD (Oriole Park at Camden Yards)
Summary:
The Director, Accounting position is responsible for supporting the Sr. Director, Controller in the day-to-day functions of the finance and accounting operations of the Baltimore Orioles. The roles and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to financial close execution, oversight of the team's AP and AR functions, league reporting, and team growth and development.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the close processes including reviewing and posting journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, fixed asset postings, and other closing needs.
  • Lead team in creating an efficient close process to accurately complete the monthly-close process in 10 days
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective financial operations.
  • Prepare the annual MLB Financial Information Questionnaire (FIQ) along with interim FIQ's (IFIQ's)
  • Prepare present value of deferred comp/bonus calculations and record Major League baseball transactions
  • Prepare a worksheet tracking Major League baseball salaries by pay period as an internal payroll control feature
  • Support and promote internal control standards to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage accounts payable, receivable and payroll functions ensuring timely processing and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Review and approve team journal entries in the BC accounting system
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the extended accounting team, including setting team member goals, facilitating training, and fostering professional development
  • Involvement in the evaluation and implementation of system improvements inclusive of treasury workflow process and other systems to drive automation, and data accuracy.
  • Support relationships with external auditors and tax accountants, ensuring comprehensive compliance with all local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making by senior leadership.
  • Willing to work on other ad hoc projects and analyses as required

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or Finance
  • CPA certification
  • Must demonstrate a clear understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The anticipated salary for this role is $125,000-$150,000 annually depending on experience, plus bonus opportunity.
