What is an ML.NET job?

An ML.NET job typically involves developing and deploying machine learning models using Microsoft's ML.NET framework. Professionals in this role work with .NET applications, integrating ML capabilities into software solutions. They often preprocess data, train models, and optimize performance for real-world applications. Experience with C#, .NET, and data science principles is usually required.

Is ML.NET better than Python?

ML.NET is a machine learning framework designed for .NET developers to build and integrate ML models using C# or F#. Python is a widely used programming language with extensive libraries like TensorFlow and scikit-learn for machine learning. The choice depends on the development environment and project requirements, with Python generally offering more flexibility and a larger ecosystem for data science and ML tasks.

What are the typical responsibilities of an ML .NET Engineer on a development team?

As an ML .NET Engineer, your primary responsibilities include designing, building, and integrating machine learning models within the .NET framework, often using ML.NET and related Microsoft technologies. You will collaborate closely with software developers, data engineers, and product managers to ensure models are production-ready, scalable, and aligned with business needs. Daily tasks may involve data preprocessing, model training and evaluation, optimizing performance, and maintaining model pipelines. In many organizations, ML .NET Engineers also contribute to code reviews, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on machine learning best practices.

Is .NET developer a good career?

.NET developers are in demand due to the widespread use of Microsoft technologies in enterprise applications. The role typically requires proficiency in C# and related tools, and offers opportunities for career growth in software development, system architecture, and cloud integration. Job stability and salary potential are generally favorable for skilled .NET developers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Ml Net position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ML .NET (Machine Learning .NET) Engineer, a strong background in machine learning concepts, C# programming, and the Microsoft .NET ecosystem is essential, often backed by a degree in computer science or related fields. Experience with ML.NET, Azure Machine Learning, and version control systems like Git is highly valued, and certifications in Microsoft technologies can be advantageous. Problem-solving, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are valuable soft skills for success in this role. These skills and qualities are critical for effectively developing, deploying, and maintaining robust machine learning solutions within .NET environments.

Which 5 jobs will survive AI?

For ML Net professionals, roles that require complex problem-solving, creativity, and human interaction are more likely to survive AI automation. These include data scientists, AI ethics specialists, machine learning engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and AI product managers. These jobs often require advanced technical skills, domain expertise, and adaptability to evolving technologies.

Is ML a high paying job?

Machine Learning (ML) roles are generally considered high-paying within the tech industry due to the specialized skills required, such as programming, data analysis, and knowledge of algorithms. Salaries vary based on experience, location, and company size but tend to be above average compared to many other professions in technology.

Job description

Optum Tech is a global leader in health care innovation. Our teams develop cutting-edge solutions that help people live healthier lives and help make the health system work better for everyone. From advanced data analytics and AI to cybersecurity, we use innovative approaches to solve some of health care's most complex challenges. Your contributions here have the potential to change lives. Ready to build the next breakthrough? Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative AI/ML Engineer with deep expertise in Generative AI technologies to develop and deploy cutting-edge solutions within the Pharmacy domain. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Agentic AI, and frameworks such as LangGraph and LangChain. Solid proficiency in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras are essential.

This role will involve close collaboration with Pharmacy Operations and Capability teams. On the Operations side, you'll engage directly with Pharmacists to understand and solve real-world challenges. On the Capability side, you'll work with Capability leaders to identify problem areas and co-design AI/ML solutions. You'll also contribute to broader initiatives in Pharmacy Modernization, aligning with organizational goals to leverage emerging AI technologies for reducing manual work, accelerating delivery, and improving Net Promoter Score (NPS).

If you are located in the EST time zone, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models using GenAI technologies (LLMs, RAG, Agentic AI)
  • Utilize frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras for model development
  • Deploy AI/ML solutions in production environments, preferably on cloud platforms like Azure
  • Conduct rigorous model testing, validation, and performance optimization
  • Containerize AI/ML projects and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to preprocess, analyze, and interpret large-scale datasets
  • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in generative AI and ML technologies
  • Ensure code quality and security by identifying and resolving vulnerabilities
  • Maintain solid programming practices with a focus on Python
  • Work Eastern Time Zone hours to support collaboration across a global team
  • Participate in on-call rotations as scheduled
  • Not a research focused role, but more of an AI/ML product development role in a software engineering team.

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 5 years of industry experience in AI/ML or Data Science
  • 3 years of hands-on experience with Python and version control tools like GitHub
  • 3 years of experience deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments
  • Experience with Git management and CI/CD best practices
  • Experience in designing high-level cloud architecture and solution designs for AI/ML solutions
  • Experience with AI/ML projects deployed in Production

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in AI/ML or related technologies
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Proven knowledge of UAIS and MLRB

*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.
