POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Position Title: Extra-Duty Position
  • School/Department: Designated School
  • Supervisor: Director of Athletics, Principal, and Assistant Principal
  • Terms of Employment: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or Classified Conditions of Employment

Primary Function:

To provide activity-specific instruction and guidance in order to develop students' skills and provide meaningful extracurricular experiences that supplement students' educational experiences.

Essential Duties:

  • Organize and oversee assigned extracurricular activity, including practices and competitions, performances, or events.
  • In addition to supervising students during practices and events, supervise students from time of arrival through time of departure, including times in which students arrive early for practices and events and times in which students are waiting for their parents/guardians after practices and events.
  • Provide responsive instruction to continuously develop students' activity-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Exemplify sportsmanship and instill it in students.
  • Manage activity resources.
  • Supervise and direct any assistant coaches, or instruct and guide students as directed by the coach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications and Characteristics:

  • The developed activity-specific knowledge and skill needed to instruct and guide students given their age and the activity
  • Some prior experience instructing or working directly with students
  • A positive, people-centered, and solution-focused attitude towards duties and students, staff, and others
  • The ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with others
  • Effective communication skills
  • A past record clear of criminal activity and child abuse or neglect

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are performed in a various extracurricular environments. Persons are required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, and lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Persons are required to use activity-specific equipment and materials and perform or demonstrate activity-specific skills in order to instruct and guide students. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, and depth perception. Noise levels in the working environments may be moderately loud or loud.
