Job description

About the Church
First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Augusta, Georgia, is an outreach-focused, deeply established downtown PCA congregation originally founded in 1804. Spanning a vibrant two-block campus in the heart of the city, the church family proudly describes its identity as biblical, traditional, growing, and well-resourced. Led by Senior Pastor Rev. Mike Hearon, FPC features an expansive, dedicated staff of over 57 individuals operating across highly active ministry departments. The church is exceptionally stable financially, operating with a comprehensive annual budget of $5.5 million and fostering a deeply welcoming atmosphere.
About the Ministry
The Youth Ministry at FPC is a highly vibrant and deeply loved program that serves 231 youth from the 6th through 12th grades, drawing weekly crowds of roughly 145 active participants. Ministry programs are uniquely housed in "The Depot," a beautifully renovated former downtown transit station fully dedicated as an excellent, youth-friendly gathering space. Key weekly programs include Middle School "Upward Bound" on Mondays and High School "High Life" on Wednesdays, both blending high-energy large groups with intentional home-based small groups, alongside a dedicated Confirmation-style Inquirer's Class for 6th graders. Backed by a healthy $290,000 annual allocation, the ministry boasts foundational assets like highly popular winter retreats, summer beach trips, and a thriving high school student leadership pipeline.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a highly relational, structured, and biblically grounded leader who possesses a natural joy for sharing the Gospel and building trust with adolescents. This individual must bring strong organizational and execution skills to the table, helping the team shift away from reactive planning into a sustainable, proactive ministry rhythm. They should be structured, engaging, and fun, yet capable of establishing clear boundary lines to protect long-term ministry health and avoid burnout. FPC is currently hiring for both a female and a male Assistant Director of Youth Ministry.
Key Responsibilities
Contact Work & Incarnational Ministry (60%): Disciple a small group of students by meeting weekly, praying for them regularly, writing encouraging notes, and visiting local middle and high schools during lunch breaks.
Extracurricular Relationship Building: Intentionally build trust with youth and school administrations by attending students' extracurricular sports and arts activities several times a semester.
Student Leadership Discipleship: Spend designated time with high school student leaders to disciple them in their faith and equip them for leadership, evangelism, and middle school program support.
Youth Programs Support (40%): Attend, actively participate in, and lead small group discussions during weekly Sunday School, Upward Bound (middle school), and High Life (high school) meetings.
Teaching & Event Execution: Teach large group meetings occasionally, assist the director in planning and executing hallmark retreats and camps, and manage the gathering of supplies and setups.
Qualifications
Spiritual Alignment: A visible Christian faith with a deep understanding of and adherence to FPC's mission, conservative/traditional statement of beliefs, and biblical authority.
Education: A completed college degree is required.
Experience Level: Preferred 1-3 years of paid, full-time, ministry-specific experience working with youth.
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional organizational and administrative management skills paired with cultural intelligence and the ability to teach or lead small groups effectively.
Church Commitment: Willingness to officially join the membership of First Presbyterian Church within the first six months of employment.

Known globally as a premier sporting destination, it offers residents a wonderfully rich, historic charm blended with the dynamics of a growing metropolitan area. The local community draws from multiple states and counties, establishing a unique regional educational culture of robust private, public, and homeschool cohorts. With its exceptionally affordable housing market, extensive local river trails, and dynamic music history, Augusta offers an incredible quality of life for families and young professionals alike.
  • Town Vibe: A historic, riverfront city blending a traditional Southern climate with a bustling, recreation-forward outdoor and arts culture.
