AVP of Campus Ministry
  • REPORTS TO: President and CEO
  • DEPARTMENT: President's Office
  • LOCATION: Austin Main Campus

POSITIONS PURPOSE
The Associate Vice President of Campus Ministry will provide spiritual leadership to students and the general campus community through daily campus worship, Bible studies, and other growth opportunities.
JOB DUTIES amp; ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
  • Campus Ministry:
    • Leads and works alongside the Campus Ministry team to ensure pastoral care and a vibrant spiritual life for students, faculty, and staff
    • Oversees the Director of Campus Ministry and the Campus Pastor(s) and other related positions
    • Ensures campus worship is vibrant, theologically grounded, and accessible to a wide variety of constituents, all while being consistent with our commitments to Lutheran identity and alignment with the LCMS
    • Creates effective relationships with faculty and staff across all departments to ensure that spiritual components are woven into other areas of campus, including Residential Life, Athletics, Counseling, etc.
  • Culture Development:
    • Serves as an integral part of the hiring and development of CTX faculty and staff, ensuring that all new hires are evaluated on their understanding of our Christian mission
    • Creates and oversees training and development programs for faculty and staff which ensure that all employees are developing in their own Christian identities, their commitment to the University mission, and our alignment with the confession and practice of the LCMS
  • Church Relations:
    • Ensures vibrant and healthy partnerships with pastors and congregations across the TX District and LCMS that support our Demonstrations of Lutheran Identity
    • Establishes and nurtures relationships with other local congregations in order to further our Christian mission and ensure spiritual growth opportunities for students, faculty and staff
  • Other Duties:
    • Manages administrative details (budget, personnel, etc.) of Campus Ministry
    • May teach in the School of Ministry, as needed and qualified
  • Other duties and functions as needed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES amp; PRINCIPLES
  • Ability to articulate and model the Concordia University Texas’ mission, vision, and values
  • Commitment to encouraging and supporting diversity, inclusion, and equity as a key component of becoming the premier university where the adventure of faith, learning, and life-changing experiences leads to meaningful work
  • All CTX positions require mission-driven individuals who have a heart for the Gospel and are committed to the Concordia Distinctive, our faith-based mission of empowering students from all backgrounds to lead lives of critical thought, compassionate action, and courageous leadership.
  • Ordained or Commissioned minister of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
  • MDiv or Doctorate in a ministry-related area preferred
  • 3+ years of parish or institutional ministry experience
  • Superior communication skills as both a writer and public speaker
  • Mission-mindedness that includes the ability to share the Christian faith one-on-one and in small and large groups; instruct inquirers in the Christian faith; and train others to share their faith
  • Ability to relate well to various campus constituencies, such as athletics, student life, CAN-DO, church work preparation programs, and the Christian community around us, including area churches, faculty, and staff
  • Relates well to authority and is able to perform quality work within deadlines and without direct supervision
  • Willing to work some evenings and weekends
  • Record of success with young people, especially college-aged students, in encouraging and equipping them for spiritual growth through Bible study, small group ministry, devotions, meditation, prayer, and instruction in the Lutheran faith
  • Functions well in team ministry and is also able to work independently
  • Be a good teacher (1 Tim. 3:2) along with all the rest of the qualities mentioned in 1 Tim. 3:2–7 and Titus 1:6–9
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS amp; WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, pull, or push up to 50lbs.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to move across and access various areas of Concordia University Campus
  • Ability to travel daily and during non-traditional work hours including weekends
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies
