Job Title: Heath and Safety Environment Coordinator

The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a highly organized and detail-oriented HSE Coordinator to join our team at a project location 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada. Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for administering, and implementing company-wide occupational health, safety and environmental programs, and serves as the coordinator for the day-to-day safety initiatives. These may include, but not limited to, job observations, safety audits, incident investigation, risk assessments, hazard identifications, and emergency response, ensuring that Barminco’s safety values and culture is effectively promoted and adopted across the operation in an effective and efficient manner.

Location: 65 Miles outside of Elko, Nevada
Shift: 14-days on / 14-days off rotation

Accommodation: Room and board and meals provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with all Barminco HSE policies/procedures and work in accordance with the Mining Safety and Health Act and other local regulatory agencies to promote safe work behavior.
  • Perform safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Develop and distribute weekly/monthly HSE reports, presentations and HSE topic that provide employees with workplace injury statistics, new initiatives and system changes.
  • Conduct regular and scheduled audits of HSE and systems, programs and site locations work environments.
  • Maintaining of records, reports and documents required to meet corporate, site and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct communications between injured employees, their management and medical providers to ensure that all parties are aware of rights, responsibilities and recovery plans.
  • Provide on-site inductions ensuring all employees and contractors are site compliant and competent to perform the required tasks/roles.
  • Maintenance and facilitation of critical registers, including but not limited to; inspection schedules, hazard boards, calibrated equipment, lifting and slinging etc.
  • Conduct regular and scheduled workplace inspections across various locations across various sites.
  • Conduct and facilitate training of operational personnel, assessing for competence, identifying shortfalls in skillsets, ensuring training is realistic and practical, accurately recording and displaying competency data.
  • Provide HSE mentoring to operational personnel through crew presentations, communications and knowledge sharing of learnings from incidents.
  • Attend and provide input to the regular operations meetings such as weekly safety meetings, production meetings.
  • Review and realignment of company and site procedures/safe work practices as necessary.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of information being entered into company and business partners database (INX and CHESS).
  • Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with employees and business partners.

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years’ relevant experience, preferably in an underground hard rock mine.
  • Certificate in MSHA Required.
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload/activities with strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism, leadership, and self-motivation.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of HSE legislation and compliance requirements to Barminco and the client’s safety systems.
  • Maintain and demonstrate high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience an asset.
  • Effective and respectful communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization, both verbal and written
  • Computer skills; Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel and specialized site-specific databases.
  • Ability to observe, analyze, resolve problems and make decisions in a logical and effective manner
  • Ability to be organized while simultaneously managing multiple job assignments

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
  • Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
