About Jerritt Canyon
The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.
The Opportunity
The Health & Safety Manager serves as a key leader and trusted advisor to site leadership, responsible for driving a proactive, high-performance safety culture across Jerritt Canyon. This role partners closely with operational and technical teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risk while advancing strategic health and safety (H&S) initiatives.
The position is accountable for developing, implementing, and continuously improving H&S programs, systems, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and First Majestic policies, while positioning the site for a safe and successful future restart.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of all health and safety activities across Jerritt Canyon facilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Manages team performance by aligning individual goals with organizational objectives, delivering regular performance feedback, and supporting employee development through training and career progression opportunities.
  • Champion a culture of safety excellence through coaching, mentoring, and visible leadership across all levels of the organization.
  • Partner with site leadership to proactively identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies aligned with a Zero Harm philosophy.
  • Lead and support internal inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions.
  • Oversee daily H&S operations, including:
  • Emergency response and medical services
  • Industrial hygiene and occupational health programs
  • Safety training, compliance, and assurance systems
  • Serve as a change agent by driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a proactive, data-driven safety culture.
  • Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and technical expertise to the H&S team and senior leadership.
  • Lead, develop, and manage the H&S team, including performance management and professional development.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety data to meet internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, including MSHA and OSHA.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to inform long-term strategies and reduce risk exposure.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain and enhance the site's Responsible Mining Management System and associated H&S standards.
  • Collaborate with operations and regulatory representatives during inspections and audits.
  • Engage with contractors and consultants to ensure alignment with Jerritt Canyon H&S expectations, policies, and risk management practices.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and response readiness across the site.
  • Participate in corporate and global H&S initiatives, including audits, governance programs, and knowledge-sharing forums.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10+ years of progressive health and safety experience, preferably in mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Underground mining experience strongly preferred.
  • MSHA Instructor certification (surface and underground) preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and applicable state regulations.
  • Experience in risk management, process safety, and incident investigation.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CMSP are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in an underground mining environment.
